Simon and Richard, that is some really encouraging growth. I hope that they continue to thrive!

As for my 4 trees, my results have been less exciting:
* 1 dongkui - died back to just above the graft, rootstock is still green
* 1 dongkui - green with no new growth
* 2 biqi - green with tiny buds, but not pushing.

After a week in high humidity, I wrapped each tree. They remain in ambient light with ~60% rh at 70-75 degrees.

I grafted 3 of each variety onto M. Californica and Iím seeing some swelling in each of the grafts except one biqi which looks a bit dried out. Iím actually hoping they slow down a bit since I want the grafts to heal more before they push. These are in part sun.

You have a gorgeous garden! That white sapote looks really happy. Which variety is your favorite?

Hi Chris, I received an email update from Raul yesterday saying he should know about the lucs seeds next week.

Regarding the PMs, Iíve conducted some tests with a few members where I send a PM and have them check for receipt. About 40% donít go through for me. Iím thinking it may be either timing related, or based on the location of the participants. Without looking at the server logs, there is no way to know.

Iím going to give this a shot too, as others have said, even if there isnít a possibility for high long-term compatibility, it seems like a way to keep scionsood fresh for grafting ona more suitable rootstock.

For those curious, the nursery still had plenty of M. californica trees

Iím not sure itís even on their radar to be honest. Iíve tried reaching out, but with broken PMs there is only so much you can do.

There have been a few posts about this. PMs, forum emails, and email notifications have been broken for some time. The mods havenít indicated that this will be fixed.

I am also very happy with the quality of the trees. These should start pushing new root growth with a little TLC.

In the meantime, here is the main reference Iím using for how to care for these trees. Itís a study done by the Australian government back in Ď05.

Also interesting is another study on stimulating root growth in cuttings for these

I soaked mine for an hour in a mix of water, FF boomerang, superthrive (for the NAA), and takeroot (For the IBA, see above article). They were then transplanted to a peat/sand/pumice based medium in the shade with a vented humidity dome (trash bag, ha!)

Iím excited to hear everyoneís progress!

I received my green sapote seeds from Raul a couple of weeks ago, they were in great condition. Iím working with him on my batch of lucs, but it appears that the flowers were blown off all the jumbo lucs from a storm, so none of those this time.

The forum PM and email system is broken and many messages are not delivered. I recommend reaching out to Raul directly via email, as he has been responsive there.

You have to mix in frankia bacteria into the soil for the plants to survive. And use the proper shade cloth

Where can we find Frankís Bacteria for sale? Do you know if the strains of Nitrogen Fixing Bacteria used on beans would work? Thanks for the suggestion! Also, do you have any literature you might be able to point us to?

I was looking for it and I found this. I donít know if itís the same bacteria but itís also a nitrogen fixing bacteria. Is he suggesting it or is he saying itís required?

I doubt either of the above products would provide the desired benefit since they donít have any strains of Frankia.

Apparently M. Rubra is fairly promiscuous in which Frankia it forms a symbiotic relationship with. Some Myrica species are more narrowly associated with specific Frankia strains.

I plan to just add some native soil to my mix, but if you could fine another myrica specimen and make a solution from itís root nodules, thatíd your best bet.

That being said, would inoculation be necessary for optimal results? Yeah, probably. Will the plants die without it? That seems like a leap too far. I recommend just using a fertilizer with some available nitrogen and not overthinking it.

yay for child labor!  actually I dont make him do anything he asks to go work and earn a couple bucks.  it usually only lasts about 30 minutes and he gets bored.

Thatís really cool that he shows an interest in helping take care of your orchard!

Cnesmith, Iíd like to buy 3 if you have any left

Fingers crossed! In any event, thank you so much beicadad, I know coordinating this has been a lot of work and stress. Regardless of the outcome, I am really grateful to you for that!

Additionally, the PM system isnít really working right now. Only 1/2 my sent messages are reported as received. Email will probably be better

The PM system is broken right now. Best to just comment on the posts

PM sent. Mine havenít been delivered recently, so few free to send me your email too.

Are any moderators aware of this issue? This is continuing to happen with increased frequency. Emails sent from the forum donít seem to be sent either.

This really impacts any sort of commerce through the site. It also gives the false impression that otherwise respected members are unreliable.
