A labelling incident some years ago made me mix up my alva, orange dwarf Taiwan starapple and philipinne gold seedlings. I have a friend the esteemed Taiwanese dwarf which he has espaliered over his garage and it is a handsome tree. He just dropped by 5 minutes ago on the way to work to interrogate me on the fruit his tree produced. While it may be the premier starfruit and the cream of the crop he really wanted the Taiwanese one. My geese up-ended pots and pulled out labels and in the rescue mission some were clearly mislabelled. It can take years before such errors can be found out.

Chums here are the two alvas presented to me today. They are one of the largest and most glamorous starapple varieties. The largest ones approach 1kg from memory.

Sorry about the repeat pics. I think they are pretty similar in size to Oscar's big purples. These really should be everywhere as starapples are great fruit  I have tried quite a few varieties and un-named ones of different colours and shapes and these are as good as any I have tried.

Nice, do you have Latin Name on these beauties?  Probably ain’t no amount of groveling could make seeds of this appear anywheres nears to me.  With COVID !9 it seems every viable twig is snapped up like oxygen in heat. Thanks again Mike.

I will give you a hint. Oscar has a big purple one.





They are respectable size for the first crop of a seedling and yes they grow true. The mother tree can have really big fruit. You would hock up Haitian purples after trying these babies.

So are you saying OGP, Oscars Giant Purple and Alva are on par a Star Apple Fruit with each other.

I was saying it is just a large starapple like Oscar's large purple one also is. C.cainito.
