Whichever one you like best!  (Flavors vary, just like mangos.  Maybe not as widely.  But it's still a matter of personal preference.)

I have a Monroe and would like to have a Catalina but do not think it is wise for 9B. I may graft Catalina onto my Monroe and sing Que Sera Sera.

just like with any other fruit taste is subjective. I've heard Jan Boyce makes the top 5 list. Reed, Gem, Holiday when ripe(18 months), Fuerte but it alternate bears. Carmen is another which produces multiple crops annually.

What's good in florida may not be good in CA and is also true the other way around when it comes to avocados in my experince. My personal favorite here is hands down Nabal.

Exactly.  The best California avocado is not the best Florida avocado although various Hass seedling varieties are being grown successfully in Florida now.

No, I was referring to those who have said they are growing Super Hass and Carmen Hass without any issues.  Also, Tommy Ng in WPB has a seedling Hass tree that's loaded with good fruit.

Why would it be pure Guatemalans with high oil content and rich taste profiles. Hass is the standard but a good reed, shepard, fuerte or pinkerton shades hass.

I wouldn't know.  There are many I've never tasted.  Probably a good question for Carlos.  I know he loves Dupuis.

The texture of sharwil is unlike any other avocado I've tried.  (not that I'm an avocado aficionado by any stretchiado)

When I had a hazard, sharwil, reed, shepard and wurtz I thought reed and shepard were a shade better than the others. I may not have had the perfect climate however.

I agree with Bonsaibeast, the taste of Sharwil is different and texture is also different.
I like the nutty flavor/taste of the reed which Sharwil is similar to, but Sharwil seems to be even drier than reeds.

I was lucky enough to recently try four avocado varieties together for my taste comparison and here's my preference and photos attached. I did taste a reed one week after this test and it was not better than Sharwil. All of my avocados tasted were from Brad's orchard.

Kaz, I will send you some ripe hass and reeds in 2021.  The sharwil is a lot earlier to fully ripen then the others.  The standard hass picked in June were really amazing this year.  Also reeds picked in september.   Pinkertons are also really nice around April and May.

Yep, small seed too.

My Reeds are over the top now.  Been hanging 19 months.  We eat 1/2 of one almost every night. Only 2 left on the tree.   :-\

Home grown goodness!

What, and give up my Man Cave?  No way.   :D Shot was taken in front of a young flowering Sharwil in 2015.

Every year avocados taste different. Specially with the change in weather patterns. This year our  favorite is Semil 34. I have two trees, for family and friends and this year they are spectacular.  Taste wise best,  does not get a lot of disease. Seed on the small size, matures October 1 and they stay in the tree to December 1++. It is not grown commercially here much because of imports arriving in October. But I do not understand why nurseries don't propagate for the homeowner.
Also there is a tree I continue to like a lot,  for many reason is what I call a Super Waldin one in particular  I.D. as 7516  https://www.myavocadotrees.com/waldin-avocado-super-waldin.html

Nishikawas were pretty good here as well but the peel had a lot of grit.  Like a LOT.  I chainsaws that one down and will top work with sharwil.

I've eaten a lot of avocados since this thread was started and for me sharwil is #1 undisputed.
