It is a New Guinea village type which is excellent for juicing and cooking say with pork, fish or vegies. It is softer than modern commercial farm types.

Many sugar cane varieties can grow in zone 8. Do you think these are capable of that?

I wouldn't know but they probably can if others will.  This one is really strong and vigorous.  I have others that need more heat but this one grows like crazy.  It gre around 6ft this summer.  I just got this one at the end of last year.  Theres more if anyone wants any.  I've got 4 types and this one is by far the strongest grower.

Ive got a yellow one and asian black one both from simon and another stripe one called "big stripe" that is really thick diameter but slower growing.
