Preventing fruit splitting in sw fl late season mango
« on: January 03, 2022, 05:15:23 AM »
I have a small lancitilla mango tree not producing yet. My buddy says his tree gets splitting every year from the heavy rains and seems it's common with this mango. I'm wondering if anyone has tried tarpping the ground around the tree to try to block the water from soaking the root system or tried any other measures to get around this problem. Worst case I just top work the tree into another variety. Thanks fellas!

I have a ways to go before it fruits but will try that and a few other possible solutions to see how it goes before I graft onto it. Thank you very much!

Keeping your trees consistently watered can reduce the chance of splitting.

Abrupt changes, from dry to wet, can increase splittage.
