'Pecan Pie' Lucuma Scions
« on: March 03, 2023, 09:38:53 AM »
How's it going everyone?

I've got ~25 scions of 'Pecan Pie' Lucuma. The flesh is said to be moist and one of the best if not the best cultivar in California.  Scions are $10 each and I'll throw in extras if multiple are purchased. Shipping included on orders over 20$.

Thanks for your interest everyone.

Nate

Hey Nate,

Are the scions already cut or are they cut day of shipping? Can it be grafted to canistel rootstock? Any pics of the fruit or backstory on where it originated?

I’m considering this but all I got is canistel rootstock, I’ve grafted canistel before using cuttings with a few leaves attached and trimmed and humidity dome bagged them.

Thanks for your help,

-Joe

I am interested also.  I have an actual lucuma seedling but I'd rather not cut it up if there is equal compatibility with ross sapote or canistel

The scions got clipped last night and are all bagged up and going to get parafilmed this evening.
'Pecan Pie' is a cultivar that Alex Sibler and his father, of Papaya Tree Nursery, have brought into the fruit world.  They have a couple of other varieties but apparently this one is the best of the bunch.  They are big time about Green Sapote and Lucuma and have invested a lot of energy and love into them.
I am not sure on graft compatability onto other species but I did have a brief take of Ross on Lucuma but it was a poor graft an ended up getting knocked off. So graft compatability is still kind of questionable IMO.

Is it free shipping on 2xscions @$20, or only 3x@30+?

"over $20" means different things to different people :)

I am going to try grafting some fo this scion onto my Ross Sapote seedling as my lucuma seedling isn't large enough to handle multiple grafts.  If the grafts take, I'll report back on how they fare over time

In addition to grafting, I picked up this aerocloning device at my local hydroponics store yesterday. It was on sale as an open box clearance so I figured why not.

Next time you have 2 scions around I can try putting them on a mamey to see what happens. I have some little mameys I am waiting around for mamey scions but would happy to try a lucuma on them.

Aerocloning is basically rooting, right?  Is that even possible for Pouterias?

No idea if it works, but it seemed serendipitous at the time.
