Tropical Fruit Discussion / MANGO pruning/grafting advice needed please
« on: October 26, 2019, 12:28:58 AM »
Hello, I was given this manilla mango tree from my neighbor the other day and would like to graft better varities onto it. It's about 6ft tall. Can someone PLEASE provide some advice, suggestions, comments, pro-tips, etc. on how to go about grafting this tree? Is this the right time of year to graft mango? Should I leave the tree the height it is now? What part of the tree should I graft onto? Basically, what would you do if this was your tree? I plan on putting it in the ground asap. All comments are GREATLY appreciated. Thank you.

maybe try to girdle at the base?

Maybe know what you’re talking about before giving advice...

I did not give advice. Did you not see the question mark?

And yes, girdling works for certain fruit trees if you do it right.

knlim000- This thread is not about "certain fruit trees". It is specifically about JACKFRUIT TREES, and what can be done so that the fruit will form at the base of the tree. Please don't get me wrong, I think everyone should try different techniques, like girdling. Just not at the base of a tree, which just seems like common sense not to do. I have no interest or time to go back and forth with you on this but it seems like you do...so please post a video or picture of a JACKFRUIT tree fruiting that's been girdled at the BASE of the trunk. Or, maybe you can try it on one of your jackfruit trees and report back to everyone. Have a great weekend! Peace.
