First of all the one true Mangosteen

Garcinia mangostana

After that it isnt really a comparison but some good ones that might be reasonable to grow I have extras of all the below with a -

G. acuminata -
G. brasiliensis -
G. cowa
G. humilis
G. kola -
G. livingstonei -
G. macrophylla
G. vleerackeii -
G. xanthochymus

Garcinia prainiana is worthy as well. Would rate it higher then the G. brasiliensis I have had.

Thanks for offering these! Curious if the Nauclea latifolia is from a plant that you got from me or another member or one you grew from seed?

I grew these from seeds sourced from Ghana over 4 years ago. This is from a verified self fruiting single plant. It handles lows in the mid 30s with no issues so far.

For those who message me, I will get back to you tomorrow with paypal info and shipping total. I was busy getting the cuttings today. No more orders will be taken.

11
Can you please describe what the nauclea latifolia taste like? Texture? Is it a good fruit for young kids to eat? Thanks

Here is the best taste description of the fruit I have found. https://youtube.com/watch?v=ifI9Lvtg7cY My plant first started fruiting in late spring 2021, they are not ripe yet slows down during winter. I expect ripe fruit this year during spring.

For those looking to order cuttings I am going to have a cut off at 5pm EST. Please message me before then I will be taking the cuttings this afternoon.

For those who have message me with order amount I will get back to you with confirm and paypal.

I didn't realize these could be grown from cuttings. Do they root easily? Thanks

Air layer and Cuttings are the typical propagation for this. I do not know the % of success rate but it is probably similar to something like mulberry.

I have cuttings my bush tree needs a trimming.

Good to hear you got to try it. My plant is still small I haf to restart it from a smaller pad over a year ago. I lost my other larger plant in the ground in FL from a yard flood a few years back.

I am glad I shared it because the genetics may have been lost. Hope you get to try more fruit next year.

Have you had fruit from PCH #1 yet?

In the order table of the first page, I added four new columns: BQ Male, LG Male, CR Male, and TK Male for Biqi, Late Growing, Crystal, and Tongkui separately.
Vendor says they can provide male trees for different varieties.

I like to add a male to the order how hard is that? Do I just give order # and add another $40 to it with a note?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: canistel or lucuma as rootstock

The terminal bud growth shows some differences between the Ross and Lucuma. Ross and Canistel look very similar however. I have been told lowland Lucuma varieties are mostly moist type where the highland are mostly dry types.

Lucuma for a rootstock is better for more cloudy and moisture areas with cooler high temps. I am in Southern CA and have a lowland Lucuma in the ground doing well. The highland Lucuma does not perform as well from what I have been told. I also have a younger Ross Sapote that seems to be doing good too.

Canistel is a more sensitive to low temps then Lucuma, I am not sure where Ross sapote fits in this. However I have heard Canistel makes a good rootstock for areas where below 40F does not happen much at all. Lucuma can handle 25-28F with out it killing the tree, this would kill most Canistel trees.

Have you tried the Jalisco red or the Delores seedless from JF? I hear they are very sweet.

I believe it was dolores that I had some years back. It was good but not as good as diamond or crystal. Btw I am going off memory and dis not taste head to head.

24
nullzero,

Ok good to hear more than a few people mentioning the Crystal seedless tastes good, I have a small graft on my tree. What is the Emperor guava and is it here in the USA?

I will need to visit Exotica and checkout the Diamond guava since I keep hearing he has many hard to find varieties. I did graft (but not sure if it will take yet) a white flesh guava that snowjunky said is a very sweet seedling plant called Steve's Super Sweet (SSS). This seedling was from Exotica.

I have a Diamond guava seedling and Waimea red seedling from Steve at Exotica. I have tried a crystal guava from my friends tree it was slightly better then Diamond but did not do a taste test head to head. If you only plant 1 guava can't go wrong with Diamond and it is easier to source due to Exotica propagating it.

Nice size, I will get some cutting of desert king seedling together.Going to look order USPS tube for shipping.
