Citrus General Discussion / Blood orange foliage help
« on: April 26, 2025, 07:29:20 PM »
I have a blood orange tree I’m rehabbing back to health after suspected root issues the past season. Tree started to decline last year with leaf drop and branch dieback so I ended up changing out the soil completely. The tree has survived and is loaded with flowers right now but very little foliage. What’s the best plan of action to encourage vegetative growth right now? Should I remove all flowers and not let it hold any fruit?

Citrus General Discussion / 50 year old orange seedling
« on: April 14, 2025, 12:57:27 PM »
Not sure if I ever posted this before but figured I’d give it a share on here

Back in the 70s, my grandmother got an orange seed from Tropicana orange juice company. The tree that resulted is still going strong and I’ve since inherited it after she passed back in 2020. Fruits are decently sour with edible skin. The tree is currently loaded with fruits and new blooms

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Official Duguetia Thread
« on: February 10, 2025, 09:01:51 PM »
I know Duguetia is still somewhat of a newer species for growers in the United States, maybe even somewhat of a novelty but I figured why not start an official thread dedicated to these trees for any progress, insights, and updates.

In my experience so far, I've lost quite a few when the seed casing either doesn't separate on its own or the cotyledons rot while in the seed. Those that do germinate properly seem to be extremely slow growing.

Here's some species I currently have growing

Duguetia confusa: these are probably coming up on 2 years old

Duguetia sp yellow Joao: I have a feeling this one is going to be reclassified eventually as not an actual duguetia

Duguetia lanceolata

Duguetia stenantha

Duguetia salicifolia

Duguetia marcgraviana "gigante de rondonia"

Recently had duguetia surinamensis sprout but then die back, pretty bummed about that one

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Mountain papaya fruit timing
« on: November 04, 2024, 09:54:18 PM »
Moved about 99% of my plants indoors or into the greenhouse for the season but have a few still out there. This mountain papaya is still flowering and setting fruits even after a few frosts and temps as low as 30. That being said for anyone that’s grown these, typically how long do fruits take to mature from fruit set?

Citrus General Discussion / Grafting previously rooted cutting
« on: April 19, 2024, 10:55:12 PM »
I rooted this golden nugget mandarin cutting a couple years ago and since hasn’t really done much. Minimal new growth, flowers in the spring but overall looks like shit. Is it worth it to try grafting it onto flying dragon or are the chances of it improving afterwards slim?

« on: September 05, 2023, 06:56:55 PM »
Anybody know what might be going wrong with my monkey puzzle tree? Tree is Atleast a decade old and has been doin fine until this year and more than half the trees branches have gone brown in the past couple months and is getting worse. Thought it might be the bananas in the back shading it out a little from one direction but cleared some away to open up some light

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Soursop observations
« on: October 21, 2022, 08:43:18 PM »
When I first started growing soursop trees all the information online made it seem like under 50 degrees and the tree would be in trouble. Recently had our first frost earlier this week with temps down to 32 and I left a seedling outside. I thought this tree would be a goner but even with ice casing the cup it was in, the tree is still alive while only showing minor damage.

On a different note, finally have soursop flowering after what is probably 6 years
