You may want to contact Laguna Hills Nursery in Santa Ana, and ask for Kevin who may have some grafted mango tree on Manila rootstock for sale toward end of July.  They also take custom order on request rootstock and graft varieties.  Mimosa Nursery is also a good choice but theirs are from Florida and most likely on Turpentine rootstock.

Mimosa at Los Angeles is much bigger.  Both Mimosa (at Rosemead/Los Angeles) and Mimosa at Anaheim have very good selection of tropical plants.  When I shop for tropical plants, I usually visit them to compare price and selection with Champa Nursery.  There is a Louie's Nursery at Riverside also have good selection.  I just called Louie's and they have a red Wax Jambu (not sure on the cultivar) in 3G or maybe 5G for $100.  They said they will get more in coming spring.

I found Champa has more competitive price compared to other nurseries in L.A. and Orange County but their space is much smaller; maybe they offer more competitive price to move the inventory.

Wow, all gone?!  Sorry to hear that.  When I got them 3 weeks ago, it was the very next day that they potted them up after being released from quarantine.  There were rows and rows of them and I cannot even get in there to pick.

Dzu bo aka Thai Long Green (seedless). I haven't try all of them so I can't commend on it. Thai Long Green and Black Sugar is supposedly all very sweet variety. Thai Jumbo is sweet when it's ripe and crunchy but hollow inside. Black Diamond isn't very sweet and I don't think it's worth growing even when it's ripe. I'm grafting different variety to my Black Diamond.

Here is a picture of the 3G of Thai Long Green that I got a few weeks ago.  How can you tell if the Thai Long Green is ripe for picking since it does not change to Red color?

I got the 3G Thai Long Green from Champa for $60 which is on sale till 11/30/21.

Thank you for all the replies to my inquiry.  Since then, I purchased a 3G Thai Long Green Wax Jambu (the label only said Long Green but the nursery said it is Thai Long Green) from Champa Nursery at El Monte.  It is on sale for this month.  Hope it tastes sweet; will know in a couple years!

Among the cultivars of Fwang Tung, Kari and Sri Kembangan, which is the sweetest and taste best ?  If someone can provide a reference on the "sweetness" like the brix or compare to other fruits, would be greatly appreciated.

I bought some Keitt mangoes (both regular and the organic) from Sprouts 3x in the last few weeks.  Some had a slight yellow color and some were very green at the time of purchase.  It took a long time for them to turn color and soft to touch. The first batch I had to throw away because they were spoiled even they turn yellow.  I tasted the second batch  just 3 days ago, and they were ok, and already too ripe despite the green color;  the end toward the stem were sweeter than the other end and starting to spoil.  Definitely not as good as in August's.  I would not buy them again this late in future.  The third batch is still sitting on the counter and is soft enough to eat.  If you really really want to taste fresh mango badly, then go ahead but don't expect the quality like the prime season ones.

Greetings!

I am thinking of acquiring a Wax Apple for my small yard.  There are 2 local nurseries currently have Wax Apple in stock.  One nursery only has the Thai Long Green cultivar, while the other nursery have Black Diamond, Black Pearl, Jumbo Fragrance, Red Rocket, Thai Jumbo, Thai Green.

I heard some cultivars are sweeter, more crispy and juicy, less seeds than others.  The nursery who sells Thai Long Green said it is very sweet and seedless.  Do you agree?  Which ones would you recommend?  I am looking for the sweet, crispy and juicy; if less seeds would be a bonus.  I am in zone 10B, and may keep the tree in the pot for a while until I get a chance to try the fruits before planting it in the ground.  Will it fruit in a container within 3 years?

If you meant to purchase live plants, the 2 nurseries stated above are good choices.  If you meant to purchase fresh fruits, you can try https://www.sasounproduce.com/ and call them ahead to see what are available.  This is located in West Los Angeles and shouldn't be too far from LAX.  I have never shop here so cannot give a recommendation.  I did found some Cherimoya two weeks ago from Sprouts supermarket; they only stock a few and infrequent for $6.99/lb.  Good luck!

Mine is still in pot so can't comment on the size compared to in ground tree.  However, I picked them when they are soft to touch and in deep orange/red color.

My name is Grace and is from Southern California, zone 10B.  I have limited experiences in gardening, and only get into this hobby for the last two years.  Currently, I have the following in the ground:
- Cara Cara Orange
- Maha Chankook Mango
- Sharwil Avocado
- Fuyu Persimmon
- Pakinstani Mulberry (to be planted)
- Geffner Atemoya (to be planted)
- Lemon Gold White Sapote (to be planted)

In Containers:
- All sort of figs
- Achacha
- Black Surinam Cherry
- Utah Sweet Pomegranate
- Goji Berry
- A few mango seedlings

and a couple raised beds to grow veggies

I learned a lot from this forum, and thank you for everyone's contribution and sharing of expertise.

Anyone know how to get help with using the email function on this forum?  I sent a few emails out by clicking on the email icon of a member, finish composing and click sent.  However, I never got any replies back and was able to confirm with at least 1 member outside of the forum that no email was received.  The "sent" emails did not show up under my sent folder either.  Very strange.  Appreciate if someone can help me to resolve this.

Greetings!

I am new to this forum.  Great info!  Has anyone grown Philippines Carabao mango in SoSCal or in Los Angeles?  How does it compare to Lemon Zest, Sweet Tart and Nam Doc Mai? 

It seems Ong Nursery in San Diego may have it but they don't opened until the weekend.  Trying to find out if this Carabao from Ong's is the same that is grown on the island of Guimaras that are supposedly very sweet.  Is it grafted or on its rootstock, and does it grow well in SoCal with clay soil etc.
