I also read a publication recently about using salicylic acid root drenches vs oxytetracycline and the sal acid was impressively effective (RE HLB).

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Illama germination
« on: January 23, 2024, 08:53:23 PM »
I recently had good germination success with some ilama seeds. First i cracked open the seed slightly with some pliers, just enough to break the seal. I then soaked for about 10 hrs in a weak GA3 solution (eyeballed it but less than 600ppm). Rinsed and continued soaking in fresh water for another 10-12 hours. Stuck all the seeds in a big pot and have almost every one of those little guys coming up now after only 3 weeks!. I believe freshness of seeds is the biggest factor of germination success.

I had the same experience - I’m guessing 80% germinated.
I wiped the seeds down w peroxide-and then dried off.   Used pliers to crack seed seal.  Used ice cube tray w distilled water and Ga3 500ppm to soak- I weighted the seeds down w under a half inch stainless nut so they would stay submersed.   I think the pos pressure of the water really pushes the GA3 in.   I soak them until they won’t float.    Then put them in promix that’s slightly moist, in a sealed Tupperware container , on a heat mat at 79 degrees.   All that were going to germinate did so within 21 days.

Jack and the beanstalk nursery in Loxahatchee has Havana custard apple trees but I do not think they are grafted

I’m late to the party but no surprise about the top 3- and I’d buy a Thom’s SP for sure

Great post- will try

Ever find a source?  Looking for it as well

15
I ordered several types of jackfruit that he had listed on his website for sale.   His posting of stuff for sale said thr items were in stock…..so,  I expected shipping within 2 wks, around last Nov.   I emailed, called, texted- and never any answer back.  When I got no response and shipping didn’t happen, I had my card charge him back for it.   Oh, THEN he responded - complaining and asking why I did that.   Then he asked that I cancel the chargeback and he would issue a refund.   I really think he was trying to get me to do that so he could keep my money.   Not sure what problems he is having, but he should take no further orders until he had products ready to ship

It is vigorous as Kaz and Brad said.   I grafted it onto sixth street rootstock, and an everbearing tree from Home Depot and growth is very fast.    Nice cultivar

19
Nice guy- didnt have any currently.
I did find them at Lara Farms.  A little on the pricey side but fast and good scions.

Hey those look great- I'm down for a couple.  PM sent

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Need advice on moldy Atemoya cuttings
« on: March 25, 2023, 10:07:03 AM »
I use full or half dilute peroxide.  Watch it fizz- wipe it off.    Bleach is death and destruction in my hands, so I avoid it.

22
Same here, would like a few Fernandez and San Pablo cuttings.

23
I walked the grove yesterday and these are the laggards for me-

baileys marvel
Golden nugget
Malllika
Cogshall
Keo Savoy
Guava
Choc anon
Cac

Some like cac decided to push new growth and never bloomed.   Looks like a light yr for Kesar as well.
The rest will hopefully make up for these.

24
My gratitude to all the responses.
I really appreciate the help.
I need some cherimoya rootstock then.  I’m getting some nice atemoya scions from a forum member and want to graft them next wk.

25
Is annona glabrata (pond apple) the preferred rootstock for atemoyas?
