Wow!  Large trees loaded with fruit.  It makes me feel like I should try a test tree in a protected spot in my yard.

This trip report is so interesting.  It is amazing that you located all those rare trees so far from where you live.  Thank you for sharing the information and pictures.  I can't imagine undertaking such an adventure.  I am so glad you were able to find all the species you set out to find.  I hope your efforts can help save the endangered trees.

Hmm, I read that statement as the MG mix can be comprised of one or more of the following, so maybe that is why the bags are different, the mix is not always the same.  So far I have not bought any that had mostly bark.  Whatever is in the bags I have bought is very fine grained, heavy, dense, very black so that it stains my fingers when I dig in it.  It compresses a lot and pulls way from the sides of the pot even though it looks damp yet.  I need to add a lot of perlite or sponge rock to make it more airy and add my own bark and comost to it, otherwise it is not usable in a container.   I wish I could buy the barky airy bag.  It would be nice to know which I was buying.  Thanks for asking MG the question Millet.  I wonder if it means the mixes in the specified states are more consistent?  Maybe more precise labeling is required in those states?

Millet I have the yellow and green garden soil bag but the soil inside does not seem to be the same as you have.  It is very fine grained and dense and contains no bark.  It is very heavy and black.  More like a black clay.  It doesn't drain well at all.  It must be from a different source.

That's good to hear Millet.  Others report good results too.  I wonder if it is different in different parts of the country.  I bought a few bags to try, but it was so dense and compacted quickly.  I finally just added what I had left to fill in low spots in my garden and lawn.  I got the garden soil and not the potting soil.  Has anyone in the NJ area tried it with good results?  I even tried adding perlite and it still compacted quickly.

It would be interesting to know what the market thinks.  I would like a sunny room like that.  Maybe an artist might like it for a studio or someone would like it for a bright craft or workshop.  Maybe another gardener will like it.  I have been thinking of adding skylights to my garage roof.  Anyway, I don't think I would remove the "glass" roof until you test the market for it.  It is quite unique.

Interesting list of terms I read all the time but don't always take time to look up their meaning.  I will read through your list for the next few days in hopes I can remember most of them.

Brian, I think the Ruby Tango is the Mandared that everyone talks about at the Citrus Growers Forum.  There is a lot of discussion and pictures there.

Congratulations Tom!  That is a lot of fruit to reward your efforts to keep them protected on the harsh days and nights.  Keep up the good work.  I hope you will be able to build a greenhouse soon too.  I find mine very enjoyable even though I have a lot of work to do for it at times.  Thanks for posting your experience.  Nice to read.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: guttation & sooty mold in my greenhouse
« on: December 27, 2015, 08:50:40 PM »
Brian, do you run fans in there?  Maybe you need more air movement?  I keep a lot of air movement in mine, especially as I have a lot of plants in mine.  I get the sooty mold sometimes and wipe it off with a soapy cloth and spraying with alcohol takes it off.  But I only seem to get it when I don't have enough air circulation.

Citrus General Discussion / Re: Merry Christmas
« on: December 24, 2015, 11:33:49 PM »
Yes, Merry Christmas to all!   It was 74°F in NJ today and the cherry trees are blooming for Christmas all over town.  My citrus trees in the greenhouse have been in non-stop bloom since September.  I probably should have left them all outside this year as it has been so warm.  Thank you Millet for all the interesting information you post.  I am going to foliar feed my trees leaves as you suggested for better spring bloom even though they have been in constant bloom all fall and now winter.  I am also trying my best to maintain the temperatures you suggested to insure optimal bloom and fruit set.  It must have been our cool dry summer that set the bloom mechanism for the fall and winter bloom I am getting.  I hope my trees are not all tired out for the spring bloom season.  Have a happy and healthy New year and a blessed Christmas.

Millet,

Logee's has it in stock and all their citrus trees are half off right now.  They just sent out an email announcement.  You need to use promotional code "email" when you place your order.  Sale ends Dec. 23rd.  It is a grafted plant in 4" pot and regularly priced at $27.95.  I bought one several years ago from them and it has fruited several times.  I didn't know about its health benefits that you wrote about.  My fruit is still green yet this year.
