Brad, I still have my vaniglia sanguino (grafted tree) and it was as you mention as for flavor/taste the first 5-7 yrs. But now, its been over 15 yrs  and I left one branch still with this variety and the fruits are mostly seedless and taste has improved. My fruits have hardly any acid taste but now I seem to taste the mild sweetness with a little acid and its actually good. I did a post on this fruit somewhere here with photos. Did you flesh have any pink color? My fruits never shows any pink color inside.

I also have the Tahoe Gold from them. It had fruits in 2yrs. taste was only average. I'm a little disappointed but I will keep it for a few more years before I get rid of it if now improvement.

The three gold series are:
TDE2-Shasta Gold
TDE3-Tahoe Gold
TDE4-Yosemite Gold

So far, I liked the Yosemite Gold the best, then the Shasta Gold, then Tahoe Gold.

Yes, I agree with you, probably the best is to graft multiple fuyu branches and then don't all the fruits hang ripe on the tree so long. I see similar issues sometimes with the fuyu if you let the fruits hang until they start dropping off the tree. I had a navel orange do the same to me. It had 70 normal size fruits on my large in ground tree (with 2 grafts of navel). I did not pick all the fruits soon enough since I wanted to get a photo of all my fruits ripe at the same time. Now this year it only had a handful of fruits. Here's my tree with all the fruits which I let hang to long. The fuyu tree had about half the number of fruits shown in the photo this year.

Simon, what type graft did you do on that tree?

tru, I hope your're right about yangmei and lychees. I have a very strong growing lychee tree which gives lots of fruits, I think I will plant a few of these yangmei in ground next to it.

shmojo, tru, I do notice that the ones with the yellow leaves seems to be stronger. I have never had any pure white colored leaf grow and survive for seeds or after grafting a mutated branch.

I found an albino seedling pomelo in my seed pots, I don't think it will stay alive more than a month, we will see.

I decided to pick one Thong Dee to give to a friend to try. Here's some photos of the one fruit, I thought it would weigh 5 lbs, but it turned out close but not enough.

Anyone else grow the Thong Dee and how do you like the taste/flavor?

Brad, nice looking fruit. I will need to ask for a cutting to add to my tree as well. I grew out a Queen seedling and it took 4 yrs before I got the first fruit and it wasn't a full size fruit yet (cuke, no seeds).

It is about 10 ft tall.

If you buy a 5 gallon potted citrus from a nursery/store, you can tell the difference between a true dwarf rootstock (FD) and semi-dwf by looking at the size/caliper of the rootstock. Flying Dragon grows very slow and its diameter will be obviously smaller when you compare it to the semi-dwf rootstock. Even afterr 5 yrs the FD rootstock will be small in diameter while semi-dwarf will start to show signs of larger growth. I have a 40yr old FD tree and the trunk diameter is 2 inches.
