Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Yangmei (Morella/Myrica rubra) thread
« on: January 12, 2023, 11:52:05 AM »
For those members want to grow YangMei by seeds.  I brought about 30 seeds from eBay 2 years ago, it took over a year to germinated and only 1 sprouted.  I did another one on Nov 2022, so far no sign of sprouting yet.

I am surprised the Calmei fruit to seedling pipeline isn't more full. The fruit was very expensive so I didn't let any of the seeds go to waste, they all got potted, and I'm seeing new sprouts every day now. I think freshness of seed is paramount in yangmei (and a lot of patience waiting for it to sprout). I think I bought those fruit around July or August.

You are correct, since my seeds were brought from eBay.  Don't know how long they were stored in the storage before sent out to me.  Hopefully my Nov 2002 batch have to better success rate.

Hello fellow Kadsura growers, hoping someone can tell if these are flower buds or vegetative growth buds in the picture below, buds are reddish in color and covering the entire vine from top to bottom. Vine is about three years old and has been in the ground a couple years. Thanks.

Ted B- Nice vines man!

The flowering season in China is between April -July and fruit harvest around Nov.
Here is some pictures of the Kadsura.

Found this cool video of someone in Seattle fruiting this one
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=cMiMJqGW56M

He got his tree from http://calmei-yangmei.com/ and signed a legal doc don't propagate it.
He wrote a blog about his YangMei quest.  Just Google Seattle Ben YangMei, you should able to find his blog.

Does anyone have californica or cerifera plants they can spare
will trade cool plants. Even can trade biqi yangmei cuttings/scions
Please? Also have some cool jaboticabas and eugenias and jabo scions and whatever you got.
heheheha

Won't be able to ship anything until after the 9th, but if you still can't source any by then, I can sell/trade you for a couple of my gallon sized plants.
Keith
If it’s californica I’d love to trade or buy.

I grafted multiple Scions to 3 myrica Californica during the last order, they were growing during the first 4 months, new buds and leafs are pushing out , but they all die after that including the root stock, Myrica Californica.  Don't know why.

Does anyone have Camellia sinensis cuttings for sell?
I heard Camellia sinensis is very easy root by cutting.

Folks,
The order has been sent to the exporter with the number of 800 trees.
This is probably the last order of Yangmei trees I do for the community. We are aiming to get our trees in mid-January, 2023.

Thank you all for the support and happy new year!

Bill

Hi Bill,

Thank you very much for the hard work and time.....

Temperate Fruit Buy, Sell, & Trade / Re: Iso Indian juicy jujube
« on: December 19, 2022, 07:41:14 PM »
I brought 2 Indian Jujubes from a private collector this year and they are fruiting right now.

From what I were told, Indian Jujube fruit is remain green, sweet, crunchy and crispy.  The size is like an egg or bigger if fertilizer right. Required heavy pruning after harvest the fruits which around April because flowers come from new branches.  Flowers season around Oct.

It is very hard to Air-Layer, best graft on a rootstock.

Here is a pic of my fruits as today.  They are in a 7 gal now.
