My Barbados tree is probably the fast tree/shrub I have ever grown. I am in central Florida and only water it once a week if it hasn't rained once it was established. Even after last year's freeze it came back super-fast. Really easy to grow.
As for the aphids, they do love the barbados tree for some reason. I spray them with neem oil as well, but seems not to phase them much. Eventually as the tree gets larger it seems to affect them less. Try Dr Bronner castile soap though.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Sweetest pineapple?

I have to agree with others. My homegrown sugarloaf, picked at the right time was almost too sweet, like pineapple candy.

Check green planet farm
He sells seeds
Thanks. They do have the Isan Indigo, but didn't expect $40 for 10 seeds.

The variety I have is a little gritty and I hear Isan Indigo and or Na Dai are better, more chewy. Looking for a fruit or seeds so I can plant out my own to compare. Thanks.

31
Shipping was really fast and received some extras. Can wait to try some new varieties.

I have a red, white, yellow, and Sabara Jabo tree and am located in central Florida. I am looking to put some in the ground but can't find any information on average size these varieties grow to except for Sabara which says 10-15 feet in California. If you know or have experience, I would love to know the difference in mature height of these varieties.
Much appreciated.

Think you will have some available in the spring as well? My understanding is that is the best time to do it in Florida since its so hot and humid now.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Atemoya veneer grafting, when to cut
« on: April 11, 2021, 11:58:01 AM »
So far I have some successful atemoya veneer grafts. How do I know when to cut the original trunk? Do I cut it as close to the graft as possible? Much appreciated.

Brad, thank you.
That does help at least knowing why to sometimes choose between cleft or veneer. I didn't know that if I do a veneer graft and it doesn't take I can still use the root stock again.

I use cleft or side graft during this time.
In November I use a different technique so as to not stop the rootstock from growing.

I have also used cleft or side grafting. Is there a reason to choose one over the other?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Best Grafting Technique for Atemoya
« on: March 31, 2021, 09:42:30 AM »
I am new to grafting and have had about equal success with a couple different techniques so far. I would love to hear from members that have overall successful experience.
What is the best grafting technique, after grafting should it be placed in full sun or filtered sun? Also if this help with the answers, I am in central Florida, 9B.
Thank you.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Redlands White Sapote
« on: June 27, 2020, 05:53:15 PM »
I just bought a grafted Redland's tree 2 months ago and it is growing really fast here in Central Florida 9B.
I was wondering if this variety is self fertile, how the taste is compared to other varieties (especially ones that grow in Florida)?
Hoping to acquire some Younghan's Gold scions to hedge my bet on this one tree.

Thanks.

Want to buy Younghan's Gold and/or SueBelle White Sapote Scions. I only need 2-3.
Please let me know price and shipping.
Thanks.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Re: Pollinating Cherimoyas
« on: June 27, 2020, 01:58:57 PM »
My understanding is any compost in the close vicinity attracts nitidulid beetles which are the ones to pollinate sugar apple and cherimoya. I have them on my buds, but do paint brush pollinate as well not to miss out on great fruit.
