Hello everyone,

I have several Guavaberry sprouts for sale.  These are the purple variety, there are also orange ones but purple are considered the best here in the Caribbean.

If you are unfamiliar with Guavaberry, they have a unique flavor with a pronounced spice.  The tree itself is beautiful with a peeling, multi colored trunk, beautiful dark green foliage that flushes with a fluorescent green.  They are also fairly drought tolerant.

In the Caribbean, the tree produces fruit around the fall time of year and its very common to see folks gathering buckets of these berries to make Guavaberry rum, tarts, and jams. A 5 gallon bucket of berries goes for about $500!

I was selling seeds back in September 2019 so some people on the forum may have some babies.  The seeds take 4-6 months to sprout.  I have patiently waited and now have several sprouts for sale.  They are about 3-4" tall but definitely ready to be re-potted and will then take off!

I am offering them up at (3) for $20 plus flat rate priority shipping of $10.  Sorry, no shipping to California.

Tropical Fruit Buy, Sell & Trade / Guavaberry aka Rumberry Seeds!
« on: September 24, 2019, 01:24:38 PM »
Good day,

I have a limited quantity of fresh purple Guavaberry seeds.  The Guavaberry sometimes referred to as Rumberry has the scientific name Myrciaria floribunda.

This is a unique and special tree to the Caribbean.  The fruits are a mixture of sweet and spicy and are used to make the famous Guavaberry rum along with tarts, jams, and other sweets.  I personally enjoy the fresh fruits eaten out of hand because they have a very unique taste.

A beautiful bush or tree that produces bright green foliage on the new flushed growth and that turns dark green.  Fairly drought tolerant and tolerant of various soil types.

I have a tree that started producing fruits after four years.  The seeds I am selling are from very mature 15' tall trees.

Cost of seeds is 5 for $10 which will include 1st class USPS shipping.  Seeds will be sent fresh and packed in moist vermiculite.

Thanks,
TT

I have really enjoyed all of these videos you have posted Adam and also the Green Dreams ones about your farm!

My wife an I watch them together and not only do they provide a lot of insight to the different varieties, but the characters of these different growers really shine through.

John sure has a ton of species!

I have to admit, I have never tasted a Jaboticaba...yet  :-X.  I grew up in South Florida then lived in Melbourne for five years, but have lived in the Caribbean for the past two decades.

But I am slowly building a little Jabo army  :D :D :D

I have Escalarte and Paulista (seeds purchased from John), Red and Yellow, Sabara, Grimal, along with Guaporeti and Campo Rico from huertasurbanas, and Neylita from Miguel although those last ones may not classify as Jabos.

I am trying to add more varieties and hope to win a few FFF auctions in the future.

I am still figuring out how best to grow these down here in this climate.  Its strange because some have dark green leaves and seem to be thriving while others of the same variety have pale leaves which I know is a sign iron deficiency or pH imbalance.  I irrigate with collected rainwater and fertilize with the Holly Tone espoma and coffee grounds.  Once in a while I spray them with chelated iron.

I noticed that John had a couple of pots sitting on some rocks kind of keeping them elevated off the ground.  I am considering trying this to see if it helps with some of the ones with lighter color foliage.  My fear is that since I have them all under a canopy of Genip trees, they might actually be getting over watered and the pot/soil boundary layer is too moist.

I heard Pete mention in one of his videos that they re-pot sometimes when they notice chlorosis and this seems to help.  I wonder why?

One day when I am back in CFL, I hope to stop by John's place to pickup some more varieties and more mature species.  I'll just go with a big wad of cash and see what I can get!  Maybe by then I will have developed a more complete knowledge of all things Jabo and can even convince the Prince to let me stop by his place.  You FL Jabo growers seem like a real characters that I would love to meet!

Keep those videos coming!!!

I will be heading to Costa Rica the week after next for a little family surf trip.  We will be on the Pacific side probably starting in the Nosara region and working our way south.

Would love to sample some rare fruit along the way if possible.  Any suggestions on farms or can't miss type places?  By the way...what's ripening down there at the moment?

I would love to buy some Lychee seeds, sending you a PM.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Bug ID help

I am having a hard time identifying this bug. They are doing quite a number on the leaves of the acerola and peanut butter and a few on the mulberry.

I am going to hit them with one peppermint oil and a few other essential oils tonight. Unless there is something that might be more effective.

Curious what they are, never seen them before.

Hi Mike,

Anymore seeds left?  I have been selling the heck out of baby peanut butter seedlings from the last batch you sent me!  Let me know what you still have available.

Thanks,
Matt

Thanks Mugenia!

Found some plants shooting up out of a pot. Obviously something I planted. Cannot figure what they are.

Anyone know what these might be?

Beautiful pictures!  Those look like baby Maho trees.

I have one that is about three years old and flowered for its first time this year and still going.  The tree is about 5' tall.

I was delighted to get those first fragrant blossoms!

I am interested in the Campo Ramon Jabos and the  Ultra rare and very sweet Myrtaceae sp. from Paraguay.

Would these do well in tropical regions as well?

PS: My wifes family is from Argentina.  Her dad is from Buenos Aires and her mom is from Puerto Madryn.

I live in the Virgin Islands and yes they are quite popular here.  There are ones with red, purple, or yellow berries.  I have one of each planted out and so far I have found their growth rate to be pretty fast, much more so than Jabos.

Coming up in February is our annual agricultural fair, this is the time to procure them.  I am happy to take orders from people and send up via USPS Priority Mail.

Shoot me a PM if interested.

Hi Han,

I sent you an email regarding something unrelated to the seeds you are selling.

Do you think you will get anymore of the Pacific Lychee seeds?
