Mystery plant growing in compost bin
« on: February 28, 2019, 12:40:07 PM »
I have a compost bin that has been neglected and was not mixed around for a month or so. I opened it up today to mix it around and check the moisture level and I see a bunch of these plants growing in it.

I tossed in muscadine grape seeds along with many different types of vegetables. Anybody know what this could be? I was thinking grape at first when it was really small but not so much now.

Any potatoes in there?
If so pull one up, you'll probably see a potato chunk in the roots.

Potatoes come up in my compost every year.
and all over my garden. It's a good problem to have.

They are red potatoes, from what I am reading they only grow during the cooler months opposed to sweet potatoes that grow during the summer? If I transplant them somewhere will they just die in the summer heat? Have not done really any research on potatoes before.
