Plinia/Myrciaria Rootstock Experience
« on: May 22, 2019, 05:53:16 PM »
Hello everyone! I'm working on a list which compiles rootstock compatibility within this family. Below is an outline for compatibility on Sabara rootstock. Let me know if you see anything omitted or possibly incorrect.

If you have experience grafting within this family, please let me know what you've had consistent success or failure with.

I would prefer that all recommendations come first hand, but secondhand accounts with backing details may prove useful as well.

sp. and cv. with reported compatibility on Plinia caulifora 'Sabara' rootstock:

P. caulifora 'Paulista'
P. aureana "white"
P. precoce "red" (P. cauliflora × P. aureana)
P. escarlate ((P. cauliflora x P. aureana) x P. aureana)
P. trunciflora
P. trunciflora 'Café'
P. precoce × trunciflora
P. sp. 'Grimal'/'Peluda de Alagoas'
P. coronata 'Restinga'
P. phitrantha 'Otto Andersen'
P. phitrantha 'Costada'
P. phitrantha 'Sanford'
P. phitrantha 'ESALQ'
P. spiritosantensis
P. grandifolia

reported incompatibilities with Sabara:
P. edulis "cambuca"*
M. glazioviana "yellow"
M. glomerata
M. guaquiea
M. vexator
M. strigipes

*possible success reported with Sabara. Better compatibility recorded with P. trunciflora and 'Grimal'.

Get it youngbuck! Looks good.
I’d guess Vexator would be compatible but never tried yet or heard anything one way or the other.

I'm definitely interested in vexator, more specifically vexator as a rootstock. Adam had moderate success with camu camu on vexator, wondering what else can be done since vexator is so abundant and easy to grow in South FL.

Vexator grows so slow for me I would not think of it as a rootstock.
I am not sure where P. Peruviana and P. Rivularis would fit on the compatibility chart:)

Thank you for the additional species. I'll see what I can find and look forward to hearing others' experience.

Has there been any updated experience on this. I would like to know if there has been any successful grafts in addition to camu camu using vexator as rootstock.
