"Younghan's" white sapote
« on: February 12, 2020, 07:24:16 AM »
I bought a grafted white sapote tree labeled Young Hands.  I've read that Young Hands is also called Younghans. Has anyone here grown and fruited this variety? If so, what is your opinion? How does it compare to Suebell or other sweet varieties.

Mod edit: Corrected the variety name. Young Hands is the incorrect spelling.

I did read some other threads about this variety but it didn't seem like anyone reported first hand growing experience yet.

How long is the harvest season? I  planted one out recently and wondering when you pick first and last fruit. How about a review of the taste and some pics if possible? Not much info out there on these trees, any tips on care are appreciated. My tree looks fine but has put on no growth in 6 weeks.

I wrote Top Tropicals a message since Seymour Younghans and his wife were original founders of the Rare Fruit Council in Miami (1955). This was prior to the whole Rare Fruit Council of South Florida / International chartering thing with Australia and Florida Chapters.

Big thank you to Top Tropicals for correcting their database to reflect the right cultivar ‘YOUNGHANS

"Dear Rare Fruit Council International RFCI Miami
Thank you very much for your correction and information. Originally we got this name from a grower who apparently was unaware of the correct name and the history behind it. Much appreciated!"
