Selling passiflora quadrangularis ML (PQML) cuttings
« on: August 28, 2021, 01:39:20 PM »
I have passiflora quadrangularis ML (PQML) cuttings.  $2 per cutting ( minimum 5 cuttings of the total cuttings).  Shipping fee $9 priority mail only in U.S.

The vines are growing in San Jose, CA (9b).  If you are below 9b, you have to have a greenhouse; otherwise, they will die in winter.  For pollination, use its own pollen.  You can cross these passilforas together.  For grafting, you can graft them on other passifloras.

They are for exchange also if you have mature sapodilla.

update: there is no more p. decaisneana and p. ligularis cuttings/

Do you have any seeds of passiflora decaisneana that you would be willing to sell?

It's worth getting the cuttings as they root easily... and grow fast too.
Good Seller!

Kevin is right.  If you grow from the seeds, it will take at least 2 years to see the first flowers.  Besides, the seeds of passiflora reduce germination success tremendously if the seeds are stored more than 3 months.

Hi Kevin,

Thank you for putting a good word for me.  How are the cuttings you bought from me?

Is p. decaisneana supposed to be self fertile? I have pollinated 6-8 flowers so far and none have set fruit.

Hi Val,

Congratulation you succeeded to root the cuttings.   Yes, it is self fertile.  You were not the first person to ask me this question.  Fruits mostly will drop if the vine is in container.  You have to put it in ground.  If the vine is the ground and not strong, fruit will not be set.

Thanks for responding. It's in the ground but perhaps a bit small still. I'll keep trying.

I did a little hand cross-pollinating last year with my Ruby Glows and got it to set fruit.
Beautiful flowers!

You need to protect the passiflora quadrangularis in winter in Bay Area.

Just thought I would share my experience with the P. Decaisneana cuttings from Phi last December.. They spent the winter rooting up. Put them out in the spring in a 6 gallon pot. They started flowering about a month ago now they look like this.

I ordered cuttings from Hoang this past spring.  All the decaisneana rooted easily.  When the quadrangularis ML cuttings didn’t make it due prolonged cooler weather and taking them off heat mats prematurely, Hoang was generous and sent me replacement cuttings.  Thank you so much Hoang, the PQML rooted and is now growing.

Of the 3 which would you recommend? I am interesteed in the PQML

also for rooting do you water root them or stick in soil

To me, PQML is the best of them.  You can root cuttings in water or in soil.

My cuttings arrived yesterday excellently packaged. Super impressed at how fresh they were. Thanks for the extras as well! Can't wait for these to take root!

Thanks again,

I cut, pack, and ship the cuttings in the same day.  Good luck with those cuttings.

It is easy to graft it on passion fruit vine.

Please let me know your root cuttings and grafts.

Just saw some of these posted on the bay area tropical fruit growers page. What is the difference between quadrangularis and this quad ML?  And do you have any more cuttings available?

PQML = p. quadrangularis x p. decaisneana.  My vines are strong but it is not good time to root in Bay Area unless you have greenhouse and maintain the lowest temperature above 60F to root their cuttings.  That’s why I don’t sell them now.

I do have a greenhouse and I know it's not optimal time, but I'd like to get one going so that by next spring I have a headstart.  Can you send me a PM?

Thanks
