Mango Newbie Here
« on: December 30, 2021, 08:43:04 PM »
Hi everyone!

Mango newbie here. So a few of my trees have started to do some interesting things, and I have a neighbor that says it’s a branch, not to cut them off. But another neighbor says that the trees are blooming and I should cut this new growth off because the trees are too young to bear. The trees (duncan, Hawaiian dwarf, and carrie) are all 7 gallons planted about three months ago. If these indeed are blooms, where should I cut them?

Thank you!

Hello, they are all blooms. The last one is a type of blossom with vegetative growth. There is a special name for it. More experienced growers would tell you.
Generally, in the case of such young trees, you should rather trim the bloom. Anyway, wait for advice from more experienced growers.

If you cut off the pannicles now the trees will waste more energy and rebloom
this early in the season. For now wait and you can remove the fruit if it holds
later. Around April you can cut off the pannicles and let the tree grow the whole
season and hopefully be able to hold fruit next season

Don't let those young trees hold fruit this year.

I more or less agree with this statement
