Propagation of Suriname cherry and star cherry

Other than starting from seed what's the best way to propagate Suriname cherry and star cherry? Will they root well from standard cuttings or best to air layer? Have good quality Suriname cherry. Dark and really good. Would like to propagate it this year. Two seedling bushes both good quality fruit and the only two around so seeds should make good fruit too. Flowers on them right now.

I would recommend grafting your better quality plants onto some seedlings.

you should be able to...it's very hardy.

I have one that was propagated from a cutting.  I did not root it myself, but the grower I got it from said they took a while to root.  I would keep it on a heat mat and covered in plastic for humidity.  I have learned that you can have good growth on cuttings before root system establish, so baby the cutting even after it looks like it’s fine.  I’ve heard for best success for grafting, select what you plan to use for a scion on new growth and tip prune to stimulate buds, then cut the scion a few weeks later after you see the buds have developed.  For rooting cuttings, coco coir with vermiculite and perlite have worked best for me.

The branches that i have are very low, laying on the ground and i will wound them, add some rooting hormone and fix them in small pots with proper soil. They are kinda smalish so i hope it works.

My seedling suriname cherries taste great already, I can't even imagine what an improved type might be like.  The star cherry seedlings are less impressive though

i really want to taste the fruit also but will have to wait for mine to fruit . Really hope the taste is worth it, they say they have a reasony taste, which i actually like in mango, the part right below the peel is my fave.

I like the resinous taste, and mine fruited quickly from seed... within a year or two

I got some zills dark and grafted them onto some seedling last month and are growing nicely now. I took the 2/5 extra scions and tried rooting them but they don't have the vigor of the ones grafted on rootstock but are slowly growing. I'll post a picture when I get out to the greenhouse.
