« on: December 19, 2022, 08:41:29 AM »
So i bought a few of theese species's seeds, they are all dried, the seller said they are from this year, yeah  it doesnt really sound incorouging. I justhope a few of them pop up, right now they are soaking in water.

Anonna squamosa
Manilkara zapota
Carica pubescens
Anonna muricata
Mimusops elenghi
Garcinia dulcis
Uvaia rufa
Flacourtia indica
Antidesma something....
Nauclea latifolia
Any chance some of theese to sprout after being dried out?

manilkara take some scissors and cut the 'pointy' tip of the seed off and then break the rest of the shell with your fingers. There's videos online too

I've never had a garcinia seed that didn't sprout, but admittedly some of them took months and months. Annonas took quite a while for me too when I planted directly into ground instead of germ in vermiculite bags.

best of luck!

Drying has a chance to germinate

The annona and other could be dried I think? Not the garcinia though.

The Uvaia I think is okay if dried but you will want to soak and then sow.  Probably if fresh it would be better germination rate.  Just my experience so far with Rufa, still haven't seen Chamae pop up.  I also have Uvaia Littoralis seeds that I need to do this process and they are dry right now so I think dryness is acceptable.

Thanks for all the replies! The seeds are soaking right now and i will let them soak until tomorrow  evening.
I will dehust the sapodilla seeds now and let them soak also.
The garcinia dulcis seeds are very dry, they had a thin hust which when broked revealed a brown embrio/seed with a weird kinda stale smell, guess those wont germinate ....

I am planning to use a mix of 1-1-1 torf, humus and a universal soil for seedlings. Will place them near mu radiator in the room and hope for the best.

I've dried out squamosa seeds for a couple months before and they sprouted.

Ive germinated one or more years old cherimoya seeds, i also get some random cherimoya seedlings in the pots sometimes, i regularly reuse soil so single seem to have the ability to stay dormant for quite some time.
I did some work on the seeds, i dehusked the sapodilla seeds, two of them were a brown colour and kinda oily so i trew those out. The remaining are a nice creamy colour, having one that intermediate between the two which i will discard probably.

The anonna seeds i just nicked the edjes with the nail clipper.

I wonder if i should also remove the seed coats of the seeds of mimusops elengi, i cleaned 3 of them, left the rest as they were...

Locking pliers are pretty handy for decortication.

Every time I tried to use scissors I nearly cut my finger off...

The locking pliers are my favorite because there is much less risk of applying too much force.

Best of luck with your germination

thanks! The sapodilla seed husks were really thin and easy to take off, i used nail clipper, worked great! I also clipped the edges of the anonna seeds, to help moisture get to the inside of the seed.

Sounds prommissing, i know cherimoya seeds have a long storage life, havent had experience with other anona and garcinia species, hopefully something sprouts.
The garcinia seeds were brown on the inside, dont know what the usual colour should be, but they surely did not look promising.

Thought to do an update on those...
Manilkara/ sapodilla seeds rotted, i removed the shells, turned into white mush.
Anona seeds are swelling and anonna muricata ones are splitting slightly, hopefully something germinates...
Uvaria ruffa, those are all splitting and yesterday i saw the first one that had a starter root so it looks like those are the best performing seeds to this date.
Nothing else from the list is sprouting, its exactly one month from the time of sowing.
I dont have any hopes for garcinia dulcis, those are still firm but brown colour on the inside, i will trow those out to make room for the others...
