Adam, I cannot help but notice you said the key “got some fruit.” Be a good man and post some of those seeds you get soon.

Hey Mike,

You should give your seedling some chelated micros, mine go yellow like that but some micros greened it right up.

let's see how many seeds I get.  I'm hoping to have enough to trade/share/sell.  I'm still waiting on a hand of about 5 fingersops to ripen...they are orange now.

this tree is rugged!  I've seen them fruiting nicely even when terribly chlorotic and yellow.

of course they look much prettier when they're green and happy.  the look of tree reminds me of a carambola a little bit...I think it's a nice or ornamental tree.

Slow as pouring molasses in Alaska. Slow to come up and slow to grow, at least at first. Acts like a garcinia rather than annona.

And they grow in clusters of five. Those little things are amazing! In your previous posts they were dark as sausages, is that state ripe or oxidized?

I find them easiest to eat "skins-and-all", just spitting out the seeds.

That sound good, do the skins have annonacin? Such a strange fruit, there are not many annonacae elongated like that. Raimondia is similar, are there other members of cylindrocarpa similar to this one?

yes I'd think the skins have annonacin, but they're perfectly edible...I wouldn't be too worried...I bet if you ingest just the right amount of annonacin it can be beneficial.

many other annonaceous fruits have a similar structure...like the uvarias, porcelias, and asiminas..to name just a few.

Is it really known that all annonaceaes have annonacin? Somehow i doubt it. Rollinias for example seem really different than the annonas, but are in same family. Do rollinias have annonacin, i don't think they've been tested?

I do not think so, for both questions. There is a class of four chemicals found in the family annonacae, all having simlar effects, but still different. I am not sure any of them are healthful, but surely one of them could be handled by the body..?

Some of the small elongated hand fruiting types seems to have a concentration of something unpleasant in them. I had some from a native tree in Darwin (Xylopia or obscure cananga?) which burnt my mouth and sent my tongue numb. I know Meiogyne and Psudovaria dont have this.

thanks Ethan!

my tree is about 6 yrs old?  and the tree I got these fruits from is about the same age.  Both trees are in pots.

although the fruits have a nice taste, I know they won't appeal to everyone...I think some won't like the amount of seeds and the texture of the pulp....but I personally enjoyed eating this handfull of fingersops.

After nearly eleven months of inactivity, one of my seeds finally germinated. There is no above ground shoot yet, I noticed it only after accidentally disturbing the soil. This is perhaps the lomgest germination periods I have have experienced, with luck they will grow faster than my Duguetia.

Starting to enjoy this fruit more and more.

I have a decent crop coming, and was considering in selling/shipping some fresh fruit (if not soon, eventually in small quantities)

It's not the best annona out there by any means, but it's got a nice flavor (like sugar apple), just not quite as sweet, and the texture is different.

The fruit reminds me of a paw paw, in terms of how it looks, hanging on the tree, and when u cut it open.

The tree is tough as nails, handles intense heat, and freezes (not sure of the kill temp, I'm assuming around 25-27F)

The flowers smell amazing, like banana shrub (it's not so distant relative)

It fruit for at least 3-5 months of the year, grows slowly, can fruit in a pot for a very long time.

Will be productive in full sun or part shade.

So in my opinion, it's a rare fruit tree worth considering...and possibly the only native Australian fruit besides fingerlime that's worth growing.

I am growing three of them from seeds I bought from Austin Barnhill. I bought them after watching the video Jared (Weird Explorer) did trying the fingersop fruits you sent him. Adam, I think you are mistaken in your video in calling them slow growing. What you should say is that they are extremely slow growing. Mine are over a year old now and none of them are six inches tall. They look happy, with a nice leaf color, but they send out new growth at a snail's pace. Other than not drowning them and keeping them protected from cold, do you have any growing tips about fertilizer, pH, etc.? There is almost no growing information out there about them. Germination is also very erratic. Two of them germinated last summer; the third seed germinated last month, about fourteen months after I planted the seed.
