How To Propagate Vanilla?
« on: June 14, 2024, 04:44:27 PM »
Someone wants to sell us "cuttings" of vanilla for us to grow Is that right? I had assumed that they would be selling seeds instead, but I'm a total vanilla novice so what do I know.

Vanilla is planted as cuttings to grow on a post. We use living fence post material, like glircydia   Cuttings should be a meter long and are wrapped around the base of the post and the top end is tied at the bottom. You put lots of mulch on the vanilla. Here, vanilla cuttings cost $2-3 per cutting.
Suerte!

Vanilla is an orchid, so the dust that passes for seed would take years to grow out. Cuttings are the way to go!

In fact, to grow from seed would take a laboratory.
