It does really well in Florida, unfortunately I have never tasted fruit off the tree. I always miss it by a few weeks or the critters end up eating the ripe fruit before I come in town. Thrives in Florida savannah type climate no irrigation needed once its tapped into groundwater.

Thanks, this is the first fruit I noticed-- so 3 months to ripen.  Unfortunatly, it grew through a 15 gallon pot before I could plant it and it grows so fast that I can't move it now.  It is close to other trees and a walking path, so I keep cutting it back, but it doesn't seem to care. It needed no cover over winter. The tree/bush is pretty with large leaves and I haven't noticed it bothered by insects or disease.  So far a really easy keeper of a tree. Now, if the fruit is good tasting I will have won the tropical/subtropical fruit tree lottery!  Only caveat is it grows wide rather than tall.
Do you know how it is propagated?

Yes I actively propagate it when I have the time to go over and take cuttings. I grew mine out from seeds from Ghana, collector got it from a market. I have to check the year I germinated it. I have a fairly good success rate with rooting it. I use clonex, bottom heat, and a good draining moist mix. There is a youtube video with a taste test of the fruit from a couple years back. In video claimed the fruit tasted sweet with some beet flavor was interesting and pretty good.

Yeah the closed flowers can look like developing fruits. Once it's pollinated will get solid greenish again. Slowly swell up and start to turn reddish when it's getting closer to ripeness.

Mine are turning red, but are still hard. Do they soften when ripe?

It needs to get larger, even when ripe I believe it maintains some firmness. Unfortunately, I was never able to catch fruit at ripeness yet.

If you ever find yourself with an extra rooted cutting, I'd love to pick one up from you. I overwatered mine this winter and it died.

I only have 1 rooted, 1 year old tree with me right now. My mother tree I am not going to take cuttings from until the fall most likely.

I will sell and or root the cuttings I get in the fall.
