what trees can be propagated by cutting and fruit faster?
« on: June 29, 2024, 07:59:22 PM »
always love some fast fruit, and cuttings are cheaper than grafted trees or airlayerd ones and i dont have to worry about the lack of a taproot as i am growing in a pot, what are some plants that fruit faster and root well from a cutting? also, do most trees fruit faster from cutting in general?

Figs, Grapes and Mulberries would most likely give fruit faster than any I can think of.

Carolyn
are they worth it with limited space?

I think they are a great blender/juicer fruit especially if you mix with other fruits or sugar cane. It's productive for sq ft. with amount of fruit. It's B tier fruit, that can make a good juice base.
Grow mainly fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

Haven’t seen anyone say hog plum. Spondias species all readily propagate from cuttings to my knowledge. Some are better than others though, try to find a good variety. Best ones I’ve had have been yellow varieties. I actually have a tree I could give you a cutting from but I’m still not sure if it’s a keeper. It’s an enormous tree in a 50 gallon pot that only gave us three fruits last year and none this year. The three fruits were incredible though

Definitely no. Some can be incredible. Mid tier if they’re flooded low quality trees. I have a really nice red one that I just got which tastes amazing. Subacid and super sweet. Really strong fragrance too
