Hi, Perhaps I didn't word my question correctly in the search function. Is there a list from the fastest maturing avocado fruit to the longest?I know Lila Avocados are very fast for instance and some others take a year or more.

Read about the Tropic Sweet Apple developed in Florida from the Anna apple. I am just north of Houston Texas and although still early for planting have been asking my local nurseries about this one with out any luck. Does anyone no where I can order one on-line? Just Exotics in Florida lists them grafted on standard root stock, but I need semi-dwarf at the most. Just getting to old to deal with tall trees.

Sorry forgot to ask can you give us the details on his rooting technique? It might be worthwhile to give it a shot at least if the root-stock survives it would come back true from a freeze.

I'm no expert but it looks like to much sun and they need to be up on a mound ( wet feet) are not good for avocados. You could paint the trunk and branches with a 50 percent white latex paint and fifty percent water solution. Don't forget to feed them also. If you don't want to paint then a shade cloth on a frame will help. Some of the more experienced growers might add their advice.

I was under the impression that most people liked the Osmocote Plus. But hey if there is something better I would like to know too. I am trying to start over after our hard freeze here in Texas and plan to put up a high tunnel with a propane back up.

Thanks, I'm thinking of using them for avocado trees. It will be easier to set up a better draining soil for them, also won't have to worry about moles and such bothering the roots.
P.S. Small varieties of avocados.

We do have beetles here. Lost two plum trees and a peach tree several years back because of them. I'm not sure about the proper treatment, you should probably talk to your local Ag extension office.

I live in Conroe Texas (8b). My normal preparations of tents, frames with tarps and floodlights proved useless with the power out for so long. I am going to wait for signs of life before removing anything. I've had my citrus for twenty five years, They came back from a trip to Disney in Florida in my old dodge truck. Been missing that old truck for years, now I might be missing the citrus too. All the Avocados look totally dead I might get some growth out of the root-stock but the grafted material is probably all gone. I might try grafting again, just not sure at the moment.                                                         

I'm hoping for the best for you.

Thank you for the suggestions. I really need a electrical replacement for the halogen floodlights. They are becoming harder to find and more expensive as they are being phased out in favor of the L.E.D. energy efficient bulbs.

Hi all, I live in Conroe Texas (8b) and we are going to get hit with the coldest weather since 1989. I usually throw sheets over my citrus with halogen floodlights under and they have always done fine, but they are talking about low's of 9 degrees for my area... So I don't know if my normal winter protection will suffice. Also the halogen bulbs are getting harder to find and more expensive. So I am looking for other heat sources that are easy and inexpensive to use. Normally we see very few freezing days in my area.
