Hi, Perhaps I didn't word my question correctly in the search function. Is there a list from the fastest maturing avocado fruit to the longest?I know Lila Avocados are very fast for instance and some others take a year or more.

Just wandered if anyone had used a water tote as a planter and how well it worked for them, also what was the longevity (did the plastic break down)?

Has any one tried grafting a smaller type of avocado tree to root-stock and then a larger type to that to see if it would influence the larger types full grown size? I am thinking of something like zutano seed with a Lila cleft graft (no buds to push) and then a Fuerte cleft grafted to that. The final tree being a Fuerte, hopefully influenced by the Lila to be a smaller tree.

I have one prized location along the southeast side of my home where I want to plant one of these two avocados. They both seem easy to keep small, so easy to protect during the winters here in 8b.
Just looking for opinions on taste and such from veteran growers.

Hi, I am in zone 8b and after dealing with a week of below freezing temps earlier this year I have decided to try and figure out which of the many Mexican avocados will work best for me. I have been thinking about a Oro Negro, but I have never had the opportunity to eat one. The perfect tree would be upright and on the small side, ( easier to protect from hard freezes) it could be a poor producer as long as the quality was good. Just me and the wifey, so we don't need a lot.

Hi, I have had good grafting success with seeds from the (slim cado's) sold at my local grocery stores, but with all the new research going on for disease/pest resistance along with vigor and such. I was wondering, what is the latest greatest type of avocado seed to use? I am in Texas so of course it has to be salt tolerant and I also wondered if the root stock seed used would have any affect on taste and if it would make a less vigorous strain like Wurtz for example more vigorous.

Are there any types that are non- commercial and cold hardy. Just me and my wife to feed so I don't need huge yields, just good quality. Most commercially available cold hardy types have poor taste and texture, we are wanting something close to or better than a California hass but has to be able to handle our colder temps here in zone 8b. Of course it will be protected while small and planted next to a south facing wall, but will have to able to handle the cold when large. Looking for scions.

Hi, I am trying to start early this year and get a jump on the inevitable Squirrel Invasion. Last year they got my first avocados before I did  , hate those furry #@&^*(%$... Anyway I am looking for the cheapest least labor intensive protection I can find to keep my crops for myself. Obviously we have plenty of other critters here who are more than willing to steal my fruit, but the squirrels seem to be the major offenders. If I had the funds I'd have drones with lasers patrolling my fruit trees twenty four seven . But sadly I don't have that kind of money, I do have lazy chihuahuas that look at the squirrels but that's as good as it gets. I am open to all suggestions that don't include poison or guns.

Hi, just a quick question to those of you who are more familiar with the different avocados. I have looked at the Oro Negro on Top Tropicals website and then one on Rivers End Nursery's website. They look like completely different fruits to me? So are they the same and just look different because one is grown in Texas and the other in Florida or is one a completely different type. And if so who is who and which is the best?

Hi, I was curious. Does anyone have a Bonny Doon Avocado planted in ground? I would like to know how it is doing for you. I was told from someone else that the original tree is in a protected location which leaves the cold hardiness stated somewhat suspect. I would also like your thoughts on taste, productivity and growth.

Hi, I am looking for some of the "Duke" avocado seeds and or fruit. The Chaffin Family fruit orchard has them for sale now.
