Is Cypress mulch ok for Citrus?
« on: March 27, 2023, 09:10:11 AM »
Hi all.  I have bags of nice pure cypress mulch.
I read it lowers ph which was frowned upon for some plants but citrus should like that, right?
My planted 15 gallon flame grapefruit tree isn't happy anyway with all the citrus pests.
Months ago i used a bunch around bananas after weeding & didn't kill them & doing great job keeping floratam grass from creeping in & looks good as day i did it.
Grapefruit tree should like it, right?

I put cypress mulch around all my trees and continue to add fresh mulch.
Don't put too much around the trunk
Is it treated mulch?

I really like the nofloat cypress mulch from home depot, its the only mulch I've tried out of 3-4 that really will stay in place after a storm and is great at hosting mycelium.

My lemon tree seemed to like it a lot before winter storms turned it into a trifoliate orange tree, wish I had a report to give on fruiting RIP

Cypress mulch rocks-

Used it on most species (in Texas most things can use some acid added to the soil)

I got no float Home Depot Cypress mulch 1-2 years ago and got a small outbreak of Chinese Crown Orchid (Eulophia graminea) at 3 trees I applied it to.
Others had no problem so maybe not widespread but be on the lookout.

Cyprus mulch is nice. I use it in my greenhouse. If it's not treated, go ahead.

Thanks all!  It's from lowes, not depot cause i wanted 100%.  It's the only 100% not blend.
Not worried about it floating away, heck- i'd put it on a slope somewhere if it would bring a foot of rain.
