My other dark one started fruited last year.  It is sweet, acidic, juicy, large, and no resin taste.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Grafting Tape
« on: March 11, 2024, 03:33:05 PM »
So I regrafted everything with different tape. Bagged them, and put the potts in the sun 🌞 to wake these mfers up. Will keep you updated.

I think the bags is the reason of your graft failure.  It cook the scion.  What I would do is using the cherimoya leaf and partially wrap around the scion and tie the leaf to the scion to provide the shade and heat.  The idea is to prevent direct sun light, but still have the heat and brightness.  Leave the plant in the sun to keep the rootstock active.

Seng, your probably right about roots not getting enough air. The soil is very mucky. I should clear the mulch out to let it dry out more.

Another way to get the oxygen in and dry out the soil is to use a stick to punch lots of holes in the ground.

Mines look terrible.  Not sure if it's the cold, Californica rootstock, or too much water.

It looks like either not enough Nitrogen or root not getting enough air (water log or compact dirt).

I follow Seanny approach, except the removal of the bark ring. 5 months graft. Just cut off 5 of them two days ago.  they still looking fresh.

I don't think moorpark is low chill.

I think low chills are flavor delight, cot-n-candy, gold kist, katy, and tropic gold.

I have a small grafted tree.  It has been fruiting for the second year.  The fruits are big.   It has good aroma, juicy, sweet, soft, beatiful.   Taste wise, inferior to Lisa because I like the firmer and slimmy texture of Lisa.

I lean towar AP because of the internal black sack surrounding the seed.

Thai ruby seedless guava is good if you like crunchy, sweet and sour.

I like Diamond/Crystal/Queen the most because it's sweeter and Taiwanese ruby seedless guava.

I'm jealous.  This year I need to start taking of mines.

Here is a link to a review of 10 atemoya varieties in Vietnamese.  Even though sweetgreen is not on the table, at the end of the review, they mentioned that sweetgreen and Taiwan varieties are not good enough to grow.

Here are pictures of SSA.  It is large fruit. When ripe, can be soft like Lisa.  Flesh is segmented as Lisa as well, but not as chewy.  Sweeter than Lisa.  Good aroma as sugar apple.

Forgot to take the picture of the inside.

Sorry, I have the wrong pictures.  Here are the correct ones.

SSA, is the bigger one in comparision to Lisa and Bradley

I got rid of my lucuma.  Too sweet.  Fruits hang 1 year.

I also got rid of canistel.  Have lot flowers, but not fruits over a decade.

If I feel like eating them, I go get purple yam and steam.  Taste very simular.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: What is a good rootstock for pomelos?
« on: January 10, 2024, 12:41:53 AM »
I have read articles similar to that.

I know, at least for me, eating about 2 segments of pomelo does not seem to have effect on me.  Maybe it does for someone else.  Each person has to know their own condition.  Best, maybe not to eat, since there are plenty of other fruits to eat.

Yesterday, I asked my doctor if I can eat grapefruit.  He said because I'm on cholesteral medication, I can eat one a day, but do not drink the juice.

Man, I did not ask about pomelo, thinking he does not know what pomelo is.  I eat some pomelo before, even on medication, it did not seem to have any effect.

Most of my trees are from him.  They are mostly from seed, except longan.  The trees are huge now.

Steve should move away from seed proprogation plants, and do full time selling grafted plants. Subtropical plants were hard to come by, but that seedling era is over. Asian nurseries in LA and OC are selling grafted plants like crazy.

Steve should also selling hot items.  For example, Jabo, Thai jujube, seedless guava, seedless longan, wax apple, low chill cherries, lychee, atemoya, pomelos, ect...

Simon, I have been emailing APHIS reguarding permit.  You can bring in up to 12 bare root plants mail directly to your house if the seller provides Phytosanitary Certificate.

I don't think it is a single vendor.  It is a market place like ebay, amazon, aliexpress, etc...

I have not ordered anything from it.

I did ordered some things else from aliexpress, and it is not bad.
