How Much Fruit Can Be Achieved With Containerized Citrus Trees
« on: September 13, 2021, 06:15:55 PM »
It Depends

In CUPS Culture (Citrus Under Protective Screens)  CUPS is a screened Greenhouse Structure.

The Univ. Of Florida found that CUPS trees almost doubled in growth compared to outside.
CUPS trees growing in 25 liter containers produced 2,600 boxes of fruit  per acre.
CUPS trees growing in 35 liter containers produced even more.

Outside citrus in Florida average 200 boxes/ acre (due to HLB)

very interesting article Millet  ;D, this could also be a good method for colder climates. The only problem is to have enough space/ good place for a large greenhouse. The only thing is, after my short experience, the nutrition of potted citrus is more complicated than citrus planted free in the soil.

Interesting read, especially for an indoor grower like me who doesn't have the option to grow in ground.
It is motivating knowing I can still achieve great results with limited square foot.

The 2,600 boxes per acre were achieved over 5 years though, the article states that it's the cumulative number. So not necessarily a fair comparison to put it next to the 200 boxes/acre per year for inground trees.
But at 1,363 boxes/acre at year 6 for potted trees, it is still pretty impressive.
