rummaging through my friends large collection of plants the other day...I was super surprised to see a myrciaria that I've never seen before....after a quick double take, and a closer inspection...I realized he had lurking in the shadows of his collection, a 2ft tall beautiful M. guaquiea!
so I took some very healthy scions, and proceeded to graft up about 4 of these.
If I get any takes, I'll share pics....and of course eventually I'd like to make some to sell...but that could still be years from now.

I'm glad I have about 400 M. glazioviana seedlings for rootstocks.

I have one fruiting , very similar to the cabelluda , size of fruit is the same only the seeds are smaller .

I didn't realize u had this one fruiting.
how long did it take to fruit? (I've been told it's somewhat precocious, taking about 3 yrs)
also curious how tall? how much sunlight?

Adam , I got seeds from Marco in 2010 , that was before I was a member in this forum . Yes , fast fruiting first fruit in 3 years from seed , plant is now about 60 cm tall , planted in full sun next to my Plinia rivularis , likes lots of water.... I had quite a few plants but they were sold as cabelluda while I was visiting my daughter in Belgium ....&^*(&%%$@.....

sorry to hear that they got mistaken as glazioviana, that would be an easy mistake.
good news is, you can easily graft them onto glazioviana....i even made a video showing how to do this ;D

Thought i'd lost all my seedlings, but there's a couple that are still struggling to survive. These were planted Nov 2013. What am I doing wrong? What can I do to ensure their survival?

my guess is too wet...maybe try a high grade potting mix with some perlite, and peat moss.
i would gently remove them from the soil they're in, place them in new soil as described above...and give them a drench of chelated Fe, (any other micronutrients will be helpful too).
keep in part sun, and keep humidity high while they are recovering from transplant....do not keep soil saturated...but do keep it moist.

These were repotted into what I think to be the best quality acidic mix about a month back from the original seed raising mix. Will they be able to handle another repot? :-\ I'm not the most experienced gardener so am scared of losing them.

if you don't think you can find a better mix, or if you don't want to muck with repotting them, maybe just try giving them a drench of Chelated Fe? and if possible a drench that includes all the necessary micronutrients.
after that, all you can do is wait for them to push out healthy new leaves...and make sure to keep moist, but not water logged, and make sure pH is below 7 (i think around 6-6.5 is optimal, although I'm sure they can handle lower)

doubt anyone has fruited it, the mother tree is about 8ft, and my grafted trees are about 6ft...now would be the time they flower, but i see no blooms yet

I've got one in a tree pot about a foot and a half tall, it does fine with minimal care.

Mine was planted outdoors 3 years ago and is about 40cm tall. No fruit yet but it is looking good and slowly growing.

lol, you'll thank me later...that is your Myrciaria guaquiea...looks like your labels got mixed up about 2-3y ago.

The seeds Stevo grew into plants came from me. I received both species of these in the same parcel from Brazil. I had received other varieties of P.coronata prior. It surprised me how different the coronate restingia looked with fuzzy new leaves and more elongate foliage but I decided to trust the labelling. It you are correct, Adam I have planted 3 guaquiea plants in my yard rather than the more glamorous coronate restingia.

no fruit set the first year, but now 5th year flowering like crazy.
very resilient, concerning humidity, heat, and flooding...easy to fruit in a pot for many years.
I luv these trees, can't wait to taste fruits, I've tasted strigipes, and glazioviana, both of which i enjoy....

Correction, mine has been festooned with flowers lately and its around 10ft high. I found as soon as my red prawn durian was chopped short flooding the guaquiea with sunshine the flowers appeared. Not many fruit set. BTW the blue guaquiea is a totally different and smaller and I think perhaps something more interesting. It appears to be undescribed.

tasted fruits, first one wasn't perfectly ripe, and had offputting flavor, like papaya...second fruit was much better, closer to perfectly ripe, although had been through some freezes...taste much like strigipes, and glazioviana, but less citrusy than strigipes...
very hearty tree, tolerant of freeze, flood, drought, and high heat without leaf burns.
