Garcinia schomburgkiana and ambarells
« on: February 05, 2021, 08:14:07 PM »

Stumbled across a Garcinia schomburgkiana tree today. The fruit are sour and used in cooking.

Big ambarellas littered the ground under the trees from cockatoos chewing fruit and stems.

Those ambarella look beautiful. The ones I have only get to a quarter of that size. I assume they still have the same taste? I have never seen them that large.

Yes more flesh yield with the giant fruiting ambarella but trees grow big.

Garcinia schomburgkiana have elongated seeds and taste less sour than bilimbi with a rose water taste in them.

In fact I needed the pincer manoeuvre to get these. It is 4 seeds in the pic but the front 2 obstruct the ones behind. The mother tree is loaded and only a few were on the ground.
