What are we talking about here....smoked mackerel, king fish, trout, whitefish, sable, sturgeon, bass, lox or kippered salmon?

Hope you feel better. I once had to poor whiskey down a dog's throat to get him sedated enough so we could pull porcupine quills from his nose. The black tender sniffing part. Talk about sticking your nose where it shouldn't be

haha,

I wonder if they were processed in the same factory that makes dried fish.  I've tasted some dried fruit products that have sulfur dioxide...and it can make stuff taste fishy.  I hate that stuff.

Smoked persimmon that you get from Chinese shops here does taste like old school smoked fish, mostly due to the taste of smoke and ash being present in both. The fleshy part of the fruit tastes quite different to the fleshy bits of the fish, but the predominant taste near the skin is of ash and smoke.  :P

In Thailand and in China longans are dried using wood fires, so they taste quite smoky. To me smoky is quite different than fishy taste, but maybe easily confused?

Since we are talking about dried persimmons --- the Koreans make a punch with them called Soo Jeung Ga.  Supposed to be one of the best tonics for stopping GERD.  Stopping it dead even after years of suffering.

Seems like all Koreans, but especially those in the north, should be drinking this punch right now to help keep acid and bile from coming up.  :o :(
