Thai dwarf mulberry cold hardiness

(1/2) > >>

Pokeweed:
I have a few of these and am thinking they need to go in the ground, but I'm concerned they may not be hardy enough. How much cold can they tolerate? Thanks! D

seattlefiggirl:
I have grown this variety several of them in pots in WA state zone 8B. They tend to die (not dieback complete dead) without winter protection. so i would say they could survive in ground 8B but any thing colder these will not survive in any zone lower than 8B.

Pokeweed:
Thanks! I'm in 9a theoretically, but we get close to single digits too regularly. Guess I'll keep them in pots for now. D

countryboy1981:
They survive here through the winter, it has seem 16 degrees here with no issue.  The problem I have with mulberries (not just this one) is they leaf out early in spring and late frosts hit them pretty hard.

Pokeweed:
Appreciate that. Maybe I can create a micro climate for them. Regards.
