Tropical Fruit Discussion / What is this?

This plant was at a persons house that we delivered plants to yesterday evening. It was sold to her as a strawberry tree(Arbutus unedo) but I don't think that's what it is though I could be wrong. I just bought a few strawberry trees myself from a member here and although young trees they look starkly different than what this lady had. Whatever it is it is thorny and suckered like crazy. She said it once did have fruit on it that looked similar to the fruit of arbutus but due to a heavy wind storm they all blew off before ripening. Cool looking tree nonetheless but want to know what in fact it is so I can tell her what she has. Nothing I've seen before. What y'all think?

A buddy of mine is looking to buy bulk bay leaf trees for his nursery. I myself might be interested as well if the price is right. Is there anyone here or know of anyone that mass produces them for wholesale? Especially anyone in the FL panhandle or otherwise in the state or nearby states. However would consider mail order too.

Temperate Fruit Discussion / Grafting questions

Hello whomever can answer!

I was wondering a few things about grafting things such as plums, pear, and apples, etc. When I graft especially using the cheapo plastic grafting tape not the good buddy tape I generally fully wrap the whole scion and also cover it with something to protect it from light and our day time heat. I've saw a few people recently not covering the entire scion(using real buddy tape) but only wrapping the physical grafted area. So the scion isn't fully wrapped to keep moisture in but still appear to get success. Only generally 2 buds or so above the graft. Maybe that helps not having much to loose moisture? Also not protecting it from sun or heat with something to block it such as a paper bag or aluminum foil etc. Maybe because the whole scion isn't wrapped? Or possibly if fully wrapped or that real buddy tape isn't as bad in those conditions as that plastic film wrapping? What do y'all think about this and what are your personal thoughts?

This is found in Northern Florida in some areas. I'll try to get fresh pics of the flowers soon since they are blooming again but also still holding fruit at the same time. Lightly sweet to the taste. Possibly a blueberry family or viburnum species?

Temperate Fruit Buy, Sell, & Trade / Looking for low chill scions

Looking for various low chill scions before everything wakes up if it isn't too late already. Will have some cash here shortly.

Apples: Joy, Shell, Reverend Morgan, anything low chill I don't have so let me know what you got, possibly fuji, and granny Smith, pink lady
Pear: southern home, pineapple, moon glow, any low chill make offers
Asian pear: any lowest chill only need like 2 scions total since I only have one plant to graft onto. Preferably 2 varieties
Stone fruits: really anything low chill but would like various pollination compatible apriums/pluots the most. Improved plums, peaches, nectarines, etc wanted too. Have tons of graft space for prunus species. If cherry plum hybrids will graft on peach or wild plum rootstock I'd consider them too. Know true cherries will not though so unsure about hybrids but I assume it's likely.
Persimmons: saijo, chocolate, coffee cake, really any other than standard fuyu or Hachiya.
I'd consider various Mulberry and loquat too.

Plenty of rhizomes available for both these types of galangal ginger available. $5 for a good sized piece with a minimum of 2 pieces plus applicable shipping costs. As the names kinda suggest the lesser form is less tall(3ft or so with skinny leaves) and has skinnier long rhizomes and the greater form gets about 6ft tall with wide leaves and has nice thick rhizomes. Both are very ginger type spicy more so than regular culinary ginger and have great medicinal value. Hit me up!

Having to cut down some canes before a major freeze event. $5 per 3 node cuttings. If some pieces have to be cut as 2 node cuttings I'll  add an extra or cut other pieces as 4 nodes if possible because of lengths. Minimum of 3 cuttings at $15 plus applicable shipping. Diameter of canes vary widely so they may come various size diameters. If you live up north I have 72hr heating packs for an additional $5 per package but cannot guarantee anything for sure. It's also gonna be extremely cold the next week so consider that as well. Buyer's risk. First come first served. Paypal and cashapp are accepted payments. Trades considered for other varieties, various herb plants, and low chill or otherwise cold hardy fruits. Hit me up!

My dad lives in Sarasota and is looking for a lychee tree. Think he wants a fairly sizable one off to a good start. He would prefer a dwarf type and self fruitful type if that's possible or exists but he would like any if not I would guess. Does anyone have trees available?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Fig freeze back in FL panhandle

For some unknown reason many figs I've planted in my yard freeze down all growth(even hardened growth) every winter. What's some possibilities for that? Don't think I have major nematode issues in this yard since I don't see root knots on things I've pulled up. Some trees are from cuttings of large healthy local trees that don't do the same where they are. My soil is thick but they aren't in areas that flood badly. Other species not doing the same thing. Any ideas?

Does anyone know of any fruit and or plant related shows, festivals, expos, etc in the FL panhandle area from like Jacksonville to Pensacola? Maybe downwards towards cedar key? Also possibly homesteading or similar interests kinda conventions? I know there's things like "Keeper's of the Old Ways" or the "American Farmstead Convention" out there but I cannot find much if any info online about other events. I would be also interested in any like events in south Georgia or Alabama as well. If you know of any such things please make me aware.

Bunches of really nice Cuban oregano plants available in 4in pots. Great culinary herb for anything from quinoa salads, Spanish rice, to meat marinades. Truly tasty stuff. Also have vicks plants available. Same genus of plants but very different vicks vapor rub smell. Handsome little succulent as well. Can be made into salves and used like vicks vapor rub. Can be boiled to huff fumes or drank as tea as well. Asking $6 for either species or get a combo of both for $10. Plus applicable shipping.
