I have seeds available again for a short time. Fresh seed, fruit cut yesterday.
I would like to edit my original post but am unable .
I was unaware at the time that kaffir is an extremely racist term in South Africa .
I believe Makrut is the correct replacement of that language.
The fruits:

Makrut is the Thai name for the plant.
Yes it is becoming more used, as the leaves and curry pastes are fairly well known, ie Thai Green Curry.
There are also numerous names from the other S E Asian countries and even ethnic cultures outside of Thailand.
Citrus hystrix is another replacement term, and K Lime is often used.
Mauritius Papeda is also another name for Citrus hysrtix.
Possibly that name links the plant to the historic migration of Indonesian Seafarers to settle Madagascar,
and the later forced movement of people from Madagascar to Mauritius by the Dutch East India Co in the 1600's.

Thank you very much for some deeper insight and information

I originally had two Ginger Limes trees, both grown from seed. I got impatient waiting for blooms and cut the tree down to toss it into the dumpster. Then sadly I noticed flowers on the top of the tree but it was two late. The blooming time from seed to flower was only 3 years. Now I only have one tree. I frequently chew on the leaves as I pass by the tree, as the leaves have a good ginger taste.

What species is that ? I have heard of a few different " Ginger Limes ".
-
Pager i am not sure of the species, I received the seeds from Eyeckr a member of this forum. You can enquire from him.

Don’t know about these ones but my ginger limes are citrus assamensis. Fruit looks like c hystric but leaves are different.

are these the same as makrut used in thai food or different?

Hi tai haku. I see that you are in Gurnsey, in the Channel Islands. That is an interesting location for that species, Citrus assamensis.I am guessing you are a greenhouse grower ?

Hey Bush2..
Are seeds still available?

Yes - I can just about get a way with some of the hardier citrus outside but prefer not to risk it in winter

Think I remember reading in a different thread about the ginger limes that you don't use the fruit? Bitter tasting juice or something? Could be wrong but think I read that. Would you say the leaves are great for cooking use like Kaffir lime?
-
D-Grower, yes the leaves can be used in many soups and etc., to add a ginger flavor. Just chewing on the leaves gives a lot of ginger flavor.
-
Yes, I have them to harvest fresh now.
