Loquat Fruit. What is happening to the fruit?
« on: May 03, 2016, 07:19:35 PM »
This is happening to my Big Jim loquat. Any ideas what this could be? My only guess is sunscald (it's usually on the tops of fruit facing sun) but I haven't read anywhere about loquats getting sunscald. Also, it's only spring and mild (we did have a couple of strange days where it got 95 then went back down to 75)

I had some fruit that looked like that as well and I attributed it to sunburn. I'm just guessing though.

I think it has to do with the cool temperatures.. I had that too on some but not all the fruits like yours.. we have been getting plenty of cool temps (70s or below), but just a week total of over 90s so far.. nothing too hot or dry..

Some of my loquats did that too. I'm not sure if it affects the flavor. My Jazzy cluster of fruits is like this and the fruits have not soreness up even when it flowered almost a month earlier than the rest of the tree. Maybe the ethylene from the seeds escaped from the non-meaty side.
