Is it ok to buy and transport a fruit tree from FL ...
« on: October 19, 2012, 01:42:18 PM »
Via airplane ?  How can i pack it? Can i bring something small on the plane in a box somehow?  Do i need to bareroot? Anyone with experience doing this please share how you did it if possible.
Was planning to buy a couple of small mangoes and take it back with me. Is this possible or a pipe dream?

Domestic flight of course. Thanks! Mike

 :)

States have different rules so please update your location and zone, this would address your question.  It would help to know where you're to.  (FL -----> ?)

Fl to AZ - Thx

AZ. Not likely. Way too much regulation to get trees into AZ from FL. Contact AZ's dept of ag to see what all the requirements are to bring trees from FL. It will be a long and very difficult to accomplish list. My advice would be to find a nursery who can ship into AZ and then have them mail the trees for you.

HOW ABOUT FL To NY ?

If the final destination is AZ it does not change the rules. If they will remain in NY, it will likely be allowed but I would check with NY dept of ag to be sure.

The carrier/delivery method doen't matter...it is the regulations you have to abide by.  As murahilin said, your safest and easiest bet is to find a nursery that can legally ship into Arizona.

There is a great guy in Phoenix, AZ selling tropical fruit trees in his backyard nursery. He has very good collection including mangos, lychees, guavas, sapodillas, etc. If you are interested, let me know and I can send you his info.
