How to get miracle fruit back into vegetative growth stage?
« on: August 06, 2023, 05:10:17 PM »
Hey all zone 9b here.

I have two miracle plants - one that has fruited before, and another that hasn't. The one that hasn't is super healthy looking - growing several inches each month.

The one that fruited last year however, is fruiting now considerably but lacks any new foliage this season. I wish it would stop flowering and get back into the vegetative growth stage.

Both plants in the same pots, location, soil composition, and fertilizing schedule.

Thanks in advance!

Mine tend to bloom and fruit all year long. I doubt the flowering is doing it any harm.

I also have miracle fruit plants in the same pots and locations, and one likes to push new growth, another just flowers away.

I just let them do their thing.

Mine is doing the same. It's looking terrible. I'm thinking of doing what I did with my mango tree and systematically remove all the flower buds - see if that'll promote some vegetative growth.

Hit it with fertilizer.. I did that trying to encourage more flowering and instead it practically killed the flowers and went back into a vegetative state for a while before it started flowering again. Fertilizer I used was high in Nitrogen

Most of the time when you take off all the flowers the plants just
puts out allot more flowers and keeps using all its energy into producing fruit.
If you leave the fruit on the tree it may slow down new flowering and
I like the high nitrogen fertilizer idea. Maybe even get some urea like this

That's a good idea. I'm going to use some fish emulsion to see if I can get some healthy green growth back! I'm not going to touch the healthy-looking one though, so this will be the first time there's any variation in treatment between the two plants.

Will post back in a few weeks to see if there has been any noticeable difference in reducing the flowering and increasing new leafy growth.

I don't think the flowering is doing it any harm. But, I lost a lot of leaves over the winter since temps got colder than normal. I need it to replenish the leaves that were lost so it has a better chance of surviving the winter ahead.

Just applied two days ago.

How many feedings/applications do you recommend? I know these plants don't need much of any nutrients, don't want to over due it. Thanks!

No problem,
I myself feed my mango, young avocados & monstera every 2 weeks. But these are any where from 3 to 7 gallon sizes so they can use the nitrogen. I also use worm castings and micronutrients. I believe in treating the soil as well. And once a month spray the foliage also.
Hope it helps ya out  ;)

Keep  me posted if ya dont mind  :)
