Tropical Fruit Discussion / Frankies red dragon fruit question
« on: May 09, 2022, 04:54:20 PM »
So I’ve got a bunch of Frankies red and limited space to put them.  Usually I’d run two cuttings in a #15 nursery pot but was thinking I could probably run 4 frankies since it’s a smaller dwarf of a dragon fruit plant.  Is my logic flawed or since it’s such a smaller plant am I correct.

Looking to trade Desert King cutting for Ohana Express cutting.  I also have some other stuff I could toss in.

So I got kinda an odd question.  I want to plant passion fruit along my front fence but it’s all asphalt.  How big a hole do you think I’d need to punch to put in a passion fruit vine and have it thrive?  Do you think 18”x18” would work?  Not sure if this is really feasible.  But being on the beach we have small lots and I hear they don’t fruit well in containers.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Storm destroyed my dragon fruit
« on: January 28, 2021, 05:44:58 PM »
Thought I’d get a nice head start on my dragon fruit hobby by wintering my cuttings/plants in a greenhouse.  Well 8” of rain and 65mph winds got the better of my greenhouse even though I had it “secured”.  75% of plants broken and even worse 50% lost their varietal tag.  So bummed.  Everything is smashed.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Protecting dragon fruit from gophers
« on: December 18, 2020, 01:41:05 PM »
I’m going to plant a bunch of dragon fruit in a heavily gopher infested area.  Too big of a space to trap and poison isn’t my thing.  How bad are gophers on dragon fruit roots?  What sized wire baskets do you folks suggest?  Was looking at something like these.

Looking for two desert king cuttings.  Let me know if anyone has any for sale or leads on any.

Thanks!

I got a brick chimney I’m thinking of growing passion fruit up.  There is nearby stucco as well.  Will it damage these surfaces?  Heat from the chimney won’t be an issue.  It’s very thick.  I’m super limited on space in the side yard (like 4’ wide and I’d like to keep it that way) so building a trellis a foot off the wall isn’t going to work.

Citrus General Discussion / What lime is it that I had in Costa Rica?
« on: October 25, 2020, 12:06:24 PM »
Trying to figure out what lime I had in Costa Rica and loved.  It was green with lots of brown blotches on the skin, orange flesh, semi sweet and not too sour.  They referred to it as limon.  I think it’s a rangpur but not sure.  Trying to figure out the exact species.

Well, what would it be and more importantly.  How do I get it?  I have a small beach lot so space is limited but I got room for maybe one or two containers next to a fence.  Any input on container size?

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Weird microclimate help
« on: September 18, 2020, 01:28:23 PM »
So I’m located in Morro Bay CA in zone 10a.  So when I look at many tropical fruits I’m good to go but I have another issue.  It rarely gets above 70 degrees, it’s like mid 60’s year round.  So while nothing really dies, nothing really thrives.  Don’t have room for a greenhouse.  Only have room for container plants.  What thrives in these kind of temps?  I got some unknown banana trees, dragon fruit and some finger limes.  Looking to expand.  No room for large trees (avocado) unfortunately.

Thanks!
