garden hose filter
« on: February 23, 2021, 04:00:38 PM »
I have been reading different posts about reducing salts (ions) from water and came across "garden hose filter". Does anyone uses it? Does it really make a difference?
Which brand is reliable?

I had a deep well on my property and had the water tested.
It had very high salt content and some of my trees were suffering.
I was told the filters are not effective. I was able to
switch to a shallow well on my property. I don't have any
experience with the filters and went with what the water company
told me. If the filters work I would like to know.

I use the Aquacrest garden hose water filter, but there are better filters on the market. I haven't tested the water, but it claims to remove chlorine and heavy metals, which can help lower the water's pH. Perfect for tropicals.
Best thing is, there's no more white residue on my plants. I guess that's some proof the filter's doing it's job. I've used it for a year now and everything looks lush and healthy.

I'm on tap, so I'm not sure. I do remember reading that if you're using something other than tap, you have to wire mesh pre-filter before adding one of these low micron twist-on filters or they clog too fast.

Filters are effective. At the same time, you might not be able to do it with a cheap plug in filter. Get your water tested and find out what the best solution is for you. While at it, i would opt for a drinking water safe hose as well.
Allow yourself to know, if you wish, that this is a multi dimensional communication.
See what happens.

My tap ppm was about 250ish and i used 2 filters the rv one takes particles and chlorine out then the second one with car on it has a resin that eliminates solids so it would come out 0ppm . It lasted about 50-75 gallons before my ppm started to raise little by little. I used it for a while and worked great i changed to ro though.
