Lemon Zest Worldwide
« on: December 25, 2014, 05:08:55 PM »
I would like to make a list of every country where the Lemon Zest mango is growing in ground since it's the GOAT. I will update the list as people post. Also, if your country is not listed and you would like some Lemon Zest budwood to graft, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

Here is the list so far:

USA
Spain (Canary Islands)
Mexico
Vietnam
El Salvador
Australia (poly seedling?)
Philippines
France (Réunion)

No disrespect to LL, but Earl Manigault is the GOAT.

The movie about his life, starring Don Cheadle has some classic "on-a-bender" scenes/lines.

I am missing something here.

First i thought it was lemon meringue mango (aka po piu klai) from Myanmar.

Then i found info somewhere that it is a new Zills variety.

So is there no copyright on the new Zills variety's? Also not on the other new Zills mango's?

coconut cream is patented, but Lemon Zest is not.  PPK is more lemony, while LZ is more citrusy.  LZ is larger fruit than PPK also.

Oh i see, thank you!

I will start a new thread about patents because i'm ignorant about it and don't want to ruin this thread with my ignorance.

If you search the forum, there have been a few threads on patents and trademarks. I think there is at least one thread dedicated to the coconut cream patent.

PPK is also called Lemon Meringue in Florida. It is the parent mango of the Lemon Zest. I think the Lemon Zest is better than the PPK though. As do most others who have tried both.

Copyrights, trademarks, and patents are all used for different purposes. Copyrights aren't for fruit trees but generally for creative works. Patents are for new fruit tree varieties and Trademarks are for the name of the fruit such as the Sweetheart lychee or the Champagne mango. The Sweetheart and Champagne aren't actual cultivar names but they are the commercial trademarked named.

Are we sure Lemon Zest Holds the GOAT Title? I've seen numerous reports on threads here claiming Coconut Cream has bested LZ as well as a perfectly ripened Sweet Tart.....

I actually put Seacrest on par with lemon zest last year, but I don't really know anything about the tree's growth habit or disease resistance, which would play a role in evaluating GOAT.

PBR is pretty slippery in Australia. Certainly establishing infringement would be difficult in many cases, which is probably why there are so many SOL's relating to PBR and a a company with a PBR grievance cannot proceed to seek damages from the accused party without first going through the process of a desist notice. As far as I'm aware nobody has been nailed to wall over here for PBR infringement and it is improbable this will happen any time soon considering that most violations, even if they were clear cut, would relate to backyard growers inadvertently transgressing PBR Via ebay. Most people don't know that PBR exists.

PBR's granted in the US are non-applicable in Australia unless the business which holds a particular PBR has an Australian ABN--they are other caveats also.

Wow very compact. Wish mine was as compact as this. I guess the low graft point must have helped.

Believe it or not, none of my seeds made it in 2014.  But alas, 2015 will see Bermuda on this list.

LZ is the G.O.A.T.
