can myrtaceae seeds be stored on the fridge?
« on: January 14, 2014, 09:37:21 AM »
I know that psidium and feijoa seeds can be stored for 1 year in the fridge and I tested them: dont loose germination power.

But I dont know if the same can be done with guabiju (that's what I am concerned about now! because they dont resist drying [just 1 month unpacked would kill them]), eugenias, campomanesias and so...

Does anyone knows?

I also know that there are some differences between species of the same genum, for instance, c. guazumifolia can be stored outside the fridge for 1 year but c. lineatifolia no (or at least, that's what I read about).

Thanks Luis, I dont see the exact post where she wrote it, does she stored the fruit and or the seeds?

The main goal is to fridge (4 to 8º C) without loosing germination capacity

In my uneducated opinion if you freeze they are dead...this reminded me I still have some seeds ( forgotten ) in the fridge from last season 2013 , grumichama , dwarf pitanga , pyriformis and a few more . All floated tested in water , after cutting them in 2 only the E.pitanga looked still good , I will plant them to see if they germinate . All the seeds were more than 6 months old .

Store the guabiju seeds in slightly moistened medium (vermiculite, peat moss, or sphagnum moss) in the refrigerator. Store them in the produce area of the fridge, usually lower part that is the warmest. Don't freeze them!

Dont worry Luis, that's maybe because the "idiomatic frontier" or something like this.

Well, I am just collecting a lot of seeds

and I am surprised by the heavy load, being it's first fruiting season!
