Pigmented Trifoliate Cross
Tom_GA:
I think it would be an interesting and exciting cross, if possible. I wonder why no attempt has ever been made. It seems like it should be possible with a blood orange or a red pommelo.

BeyondOrganicLife:
I have a cara cara seedling from a sunkist cara cara orange that is trifoliate, bifoliate and unifoliate. I'm hoping it will have pink flesh. I'm assuming it got pollinated by its own rootstock. In california the most common rootstocks are carrizo and Troyer which are both crossed with washington navel, and cara cara is a sport of washington navel so im assuming it's 3/4 washington navel. I don't know what the odds of the pink flesh coming through are but fingers are crossed. Out of about ten bags of sunkist oranges I found two seeds. One died and the other is still thriving.

That's awesome! How old is the cara cara seedling?
BeyondOrganicLife:
It's a year and a half old but still small cause I kept it in a pot while we were moving around. I had to cut it back once because it got hit by herbicide drift from the power company at our old place. It's been in the ground at our new place since February, and finally thriving. I have a short video on my youtube if you want to check it out. I havent figured out how topost pics yet. https://youtube.com/shorts/Yv3QKn5skqg?si=6UnR5qZe3KrR9aJ9
