Beautiful Garnets Kev! The new growth and buds building are quite ornamental. One of the prettiest eugenias.

How does the flavor and fruit in general of Garnet compare to Nelita?

As far as fruit qualities... taste, etc...  Garnet is vastly superior to Nelita.
Very juicy fruit with a plum/pineapple flavor and a plum texture.

Even the Yearling Grafted Garnets in 6-inch nursery containers are budding-up:

Kevin,

Are these buds or vegetative growth from this seedling? This is one of your seedlings (not grafted)

Looks like leaves to me...
The flower buds tend to erupt in pairs.

Gorgeous, I'm loving the red tips. I grafted Garnet scions onto a regular Cherry of the Rio last year and the color difference right now in the emerging foliage is striking.

I agree... the red coloration is what first caught my attention:

First blooms opened this morning... rainy and cool today... so I hand pollinated them.

You're early! Mine are still dormant but we've had one hell of a winter here. Another 6" of rain coming Tuesday. It's amazing to look back at photos from last year and they were totally leafed out and blooming around this time for me last year.

I guess I have the advantage of growing them in a greenhouse...

Nice post Kevin.  I just looked up the fruit, and it reminds me of the grumichama.

Have you had grumichama?  The fruit looks very similar and I wonder if the flavor is as well?

I haven't had a lot of Grunichamas so I can't really comment on them... but the Garnets are delicious.

I don't find them to be that similar. CORG has more complexity from my experience, but I would say grumichama is notably sweeter and perhaps "spicier".

Very interesting. They look so similar. I’m going to have to try this one.

With very low chill hours, I’m always looking for a Cherry replacement!

Received my Garnet today.  Thanks Kevin.  Plant looks great and perfectly healthy.  The graft is nicely healed and I am looking forward to seeing this grow in the yard.

I am not as warm as you are (more coastal temperate here) but how large do these grow for you?  They are very similar to a tree we have here locally that grows quite tall... 20 ft + if allowed.

Thanks again for immediate reply to questions and ultra fast shipping.  This was seamless.

Hi Jeramy,
My Mother Garnet plants are pushing 12 feet... which is the height of their greenhouse. If I planted them in the ground and gave them unlimited space I'm sure they could grow much taller.
Good Luck!
