Title: Toona Sinensis question
Post by: SeaWalnut on January 22, 2020, 10:04:34 AM
What could be wrong with this Toona?
Its the only seedling that survived after manny attempts to propagate them from seeds.
On the otther seedlings the ,,needles,,opened into leaves but not on this one.
Its a broad leaf tree and doesnt look like it should be .
Im sure that the seed it came from its Toona Sinensis.
Searching pictures on Google with Toonas germinated didnt showed any result.

It look like juniper or Cupressus seedling. Sometimes it occur when seeds are mixed with seeds of nearby tree/shrub. I was sowing Toona sinensis few years ago and this doesnt look like real Toona seedling.

Its toona without a doubt, smells like toona.
Looks verry weird thogh.
In juvenile stage they start with 3 ,,needles,, that then open into 3 leaves wich are round and also not looking like Toona leaves but more like Oxalis.
This one makes a lot of needles that dont open into leaves.
Their juvenile stage its not documented and couldnt find any pictures on how the germinated seeds should look like.

This looks like cedar seedlings growing as weeds in my yard.

Judging by the following photo, it isn't the right species:

Thx for that link.I think thats how they should look like.
I think it could be a cedar seedling now because the leaves do not smell like toona ( just the seeds smelled).
Because Toona its also called Cedrela or cedar altough its not related to cedars at all,its possible that the vendor mixed by mistake toona and cedar seeds .
What i got in this pot its a cedar i think.
