Calusa- it's hard to tell on the first photo, the 2nd is anthracnose, but it doesn't seem too bad. When it gets bad the tips and margins of the leaves will brown and shrivel. You can treat it with various copper and organic/inorgsnic products if you search around.

I'm now avoiding spraying trees with open bloom with oil, not so much for the pollen, but the pollinators, it also works as an insecticide and will kill them.

I love going there. I'm waiting until spring to put my latest additions in the ground. Lately, I've been losing the little ones to root rot. Good luck with yours!

JMS stylet oil, I have a decent amount of open bloom right now, I haven't see any hints of PM so far. Currently doing a tandem with Anthracnose control

I got 43 yesterday and 42 today as my lowest temps, I'm getting 42 tomorrow, everything looks ok, except all the pollinators are asleep, might have to hand pollinate . I have everything I need in hand now so if goes below 40- the cloth goes on.

Yes it did that last year too, I stripped off the fruit set, I have a handful of dwarf varieties I wouldn't recommend for planting young. Many succumb to root rot as well

Your Cecilove looks awesome, GG- mine is literally a stick in the ground, that's grown about 8cm in 18 months, I couldn't in good conscience recommend it as a grafted plant, maybe as a top-work- and would not purchase as anything less than a 15G, in fact I passed on some large attractive 1Gs a few weeks ago.

My ST is about to bloom- I may let it hold a fruit or two this year. Planted a few months earlier than Cecilove as a shrimpy 3G btw.

I notice trees tend to yellow with drought stress, the leaves will also tend to peel back on some varieties as panicles emerge.

I'm more worried about the cold than disease at this point, I'd like to believe a good crop is possible, but I just don't trust the unpredictable weather here.

I sprayed for it this morning, haven't seen any signs of it so far. It showed up quite late for me last year end of March- mid April.

Yes I use tropical tidbits, the GFS, and Euro have been the most accurate with everything lately, Icon is mid, I don't even pay attention to the monkeys with a bottle of motrin that put out the Canadian models.

It's a little early to tell, but it's a pretty vigorous upright grower so far, it's beginning to flower for me too.

That's a pretty mango- almost looks like the Hatchers that used to be grown.

I lived in San Diego for a time, it was not uncommon for people to have citrus growing, a lot of times even over the sidewalk. I would take grapefruits because for some reason, people would never eat them, maybe the original owners moved, idk. I would never venture onto someone's property though.

If it were me, I'd knock on the door

I ran the spray gun over with the golf cart and ruined the plastic threads. I'm gonna order a replacement along with a nozzles package. I haven't been impressed with the ones included.
The sprayer has been a champ so far, if only the weather would cooperate.

I really like Miracle fruit. It's a fun experience for someone who has never tried it before

Ok that's right where I used to live, we got a freeze in 2022. I do have a wunderground station right by the orchard. They are usually more accurate than anyone else. I'm also a major USDA hardiness skeptic. As Dr. Campbell says- it will get cold again. Most microclimates are way too overestimated unless they are by a large lake, and I fear the vast majority of these new plantings will be toasted by a good freeze if they are using the 2023 map as a guide.

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Best loquat varieties
« on: December 27, 2024, 10:53:22 AM »
I like National and Christmas but the fruits are smaller. both are fairly productive

Oliver and Yehuda are excellent quality, somewhat less productive

Bradenton is also good, but the trees get huge.

I know there's a ton of varieties and seedlings, but these are the only ones I have experience with.

I was going to spray early too, but it was raining. I would say as early as you can that weather would allow, so I'm gonna try again tomorrow morning.

I've gone with mineral oil for powdery mildew. I've never mixed it with anything else. I have mixed Cueva with several other bio fungicides, so far it looks ok. I've also mixed a micro nutrient schedule with no ill results.

This warm wet weather that will last until Sunday will definitely have a negative affect on bloom- probably resulting in mixed bloom or full on flushes. I saw this last year on many of my trees. With the cold front next week hopefully it will snap back the trees that haven't pushed their buds yet.

22
Took the mineral oil like a champ this morning, I'm still fiddling with nozzles and spray patterns, but it has my endorsement at this point.

I found Fuerte to be a pretty aggressive tree, I'm sure it would make a good rootstock
