Haha. Exactly, Xesoteryc. I think it's his cruel joke to advertise all the best stuff, then not to sell to us! The plan now is to collect, propagate, then sell something tempting enough that he'll buy. That would open the door, but it's a paradox, because he's already got the best stuff!

(I'm just playing, obviously. There's a lot of flakes and even more jerks in the world. I get it.)

There's other people who have it, I'll reach out eventually. Thank God for the search engine   8)

Whats your favorite fig in your collection?

6

Guineense is pumping them out HARD right now. I did see my hand pollinated guineense x guajava fruit fell, it was tiny so maybe seedless but hoping for a new cultivar it is seeded.

No thinning needed? I see you have it in a pot, what is your feeding schedule? Looking too good

Has anyone seen this kind of issue? This is longipetiolatum and it's been in the ground here for a few years with only a hint of this in previous winters. The spots appeared over the last few weeks after a few mild freezes, but looks more fungal than freeze damage to me (maybe a fungus that invaded after mild freeze damage?). The shade of the leaves also has been getting pale since late summer even after some fish emulsion a few times, so I was suspecting soil pH issues.

I just noticed these on my Lemon Guava seedlings as well

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Carmine Type Guava - Red Blush on Fruit
« on: December 06, 2024, 03:24:36 PM »
my tree from China fruited 3. 2 was eaten by critters. I was able to eat 1 & still fruiting small ones.

The outer part was slightly red hue & internal is same as greg_D. Its creamy for me & sweet. Better than Ruby supreme, mexican cream in my opinion.

Too bad, wasnt able to take a photo. :)

Yeah the one I had was like a bigger, prettier Mexican cream. By the way, I've noticed people tend to dislike seeds in guava. Is that just for crunchy guavas? I don't mind seeds in soft guavas at all

The seeds are packed with nutrition and usually surrounded by the sweetest of the flesh. I love em.

I have tried a crunchy one with BB sized seeds though that I would never get again. My La Verne tropical pink has soft seeds luckily

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: My Yard 2022

My new location will be in Hollister Ranch, on a 100 acre lot, with 20gpm well, in SOLID 10a zone, with a 17,000lb producing avocado orchard on property. The barn is rough, but has a living unit built into it. The owner of the property found me by way of my newspaper article and wants me there badly. He has also been collecting "rare" fruit trees for 40 years or so, and was excited by my collection. I'll be doing 10 hours of work a week for him to offset the rent a bit, and expanding his orchard, with a focus on rare stuff.

It's exciting for me, despite the drawbacks of the ranch - it's a 40-50 min drive to Santa Barbara where I work. The gates are airtight and I am uncertain if I'll be able to have guests. Have to sell my motorcycles, etc...

A new stage in my life, for sure.

Excited for you!

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Air layering Guava
« on: October 28, 2024, 01:35:08 PM »
Failed mine as well, used a rooting hormone and peat/vermiculite. I also started an airlayer on my fig with the same technique / time and its already got chowmein sized roots

Smart, almost happened to me several times as well.. My S/O got a nearly 2k emergency bill for slicing open her finger after opening a coconut, they glued it.. Can only imagine an eye injury

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Cultivars/varieties of Tamarind?
« on: October 09, 2024, 12:46:03 PM »
I’m learning to grow Tamarind right now myself, seeds came from some great fruit with the perfect balance of sweet and sour. I plan to eventually graft some of them if I can find scion wood here down the road

One of the few trees you see growing like a beast in third world countries, where water is scarce + blazing temperatures.

Had to do a double-take, wonder if this thing will set fruit? Trippy

I believe the graft on on my Campbell is dying... It has held on for 9 to 10 months but is now loosing its color and the root stock is putting out. What are the chances of finding scion wood next year?
Catching these for sale on Lara Farms website is like trying to find Jimmy Hoffa...

I’d definitely reach out if I were you, he will make it right

Tropical Fruit Discussion / Re: Are these cherimoya roots fine?
« on: September 26, 2024, 04:47:39 PM »
Can't you just cut the root off?

I don't know. It seems like a large major root. Perhaps it would be best to do it early spring as it is waking up?

Cherimoya Queen on YouTube has several videos of doing just that. She had the same issue, cut it off and it will be fine
Wow she has a lot of info. I will definitely binge her videos

Keep us all updated!

Congrats! Very cool

Success never smelled so good! My first ever Tropical Pink

I got only one fruit this year. Loved it. My Mexican guava is starting to send it's sweet fragrance around my garden. I need to pick it tomorrow or the darn squirrel will find it.

Lets see a pic! Did you prune it this year? Surprised only one

Wow, that fruit is perfection. Great job.

Went to check on my Psidium Cauliflorum community pot and they are totally killing it.

Looking awesome. I think I waited too long on my cauliflorum seeds and none have sprouted. I did get a few "Amarela de Peru" going though, pretty stoked to see how those are fruit wise. Link to fruit photo: https://www.bellamytrees.com/sold-out-species/p/psidium-sp-goiaba-amarela-do-peru

Thank you, tasted exactly how it smelled. Super funky, loved it. Soft, small seed cavity. Fell into the organza, I'm hooked
